Kmidd65 Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 This was my first build when I returned to the hobby about two years ago. I really enjoy building these old Nascar kits straight out of the box with Slixx decals. I used to superdetail my builds like crazy. Decided to keep it simple and FUN when I returned to the bench. This one was sprayed out of the rattle cans using Krylon Lemon Glowing Yellow and Black. The interior was sprayed with a Duplicolor Red-Orange Truck color. I really liked the way this one turned out.
JustBill Posted June 25, 2011 Posted June 25, 2011 This is one of my favorites from the 90's. I miss these cars. You have a very nice, neat, and clean way about your work. Your builds are very pleasing to the eye. Great job and thanks for sharing!!
John Teresi Posted June 26, 2011 Posted June 26, 2011 Kirk.......man,that is nice........GREAT job!!!!
bbowser Posted June 27, 2011 Posted June 27, 2011 Very nice. Did you polish the paintjob? Davey was a great up and coming talent, could have gone far.
Kmidd65 Posted June 27, 2011 Author Posted June 27, 2011 Did you polish the paintjob? Yes, I had an old polishing kit (over 10 years old!) up in the closet. The liquid polish had dried so I used some Meguiars #7 and then NuFinish Scratch Doctor to finish up. I actually laid down some Krylon Crystal Clear, before this, let it dry a week or so and then polished it out with the progressive sand paper grades. I then shot some more Crystal Clear, let that sit another week or so before final polishing and decaling. I agree, Davey was a real talent. It just seems like yesterday when I watched him coming off Turn #2 at Charlotte during a practice session. That #28 was always a favorite of mine with either Davey or Ernie behind the wheel. I have decals to do almost the entire #28 collection up through Rudd. Thanks for all the comments!
W-409 Posted June 28, 2011 Posted June 28, 2011 Really nice NASCAR! I like the paintjob, it looks very good to me. Ten years old polishig kit works fine! I like the wheels and tires, they look very autentic. Chassis is very nice too, great model all the way, keep these great builds coming.
Rdkingjay Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Great looking car and nice job on the paint. I am currently restoring a 1/24th diecast Revell version from 1992 and have similar methods for my paint jobs. I hope mine looks as good as yours when I complete it.
Kmidd65 Posted July 15, 2011 Author Posted July 15, 2011 Thanks Jay, I really appreciate it. Actually, I have been following your restore over at Randy's. Just take your time and it will look great. I have a Heilig-Myers version of that Revell die-cast I have often thought about updating. I am anxious to see your end result. My Fotki Page
Rdkingjay Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Well, it won't be as detailed as yours. I sprayed the interior black, yesterday, just like it was when it was new. I'm keeping the original wheels/tires and just detaing them a bit and not doing anythig with the engine or interior. Basically a nice paint job and quality decals.
