Chuck Most Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 There used to be a '97-'04 Buick Century in my area that an employee at an animal hospital used as a beater. Flat black paint, red wheels with full Moon discs and wide whites, and Thrush decals on each fender. I thought it would be cool to model it, but for some ODD REASON, there's no kit of a late-model Century. So I used another GM FWD snoozebox... the Impala, this being the Revell police car kit. I used the wide whitewall tire decals from a Revell '37 Ford pickup kit on the Impala kit's no name tires, and the discs are from a Jo Han '59 Rambler kit. I'm not sure if the 'buckskin' interior color is correct for any '00 - '05 Impala, and I'm not too concerned, as it looks okay to me! Of course, the body is all flat black. I found out later the red taillamp piece is actually clear with red paint- stripping it and repainting it accordingly would yeild an accurate taillamp treatment, but I liked the 'all black' look better. I also used a spare aluminum exhaust tip, and hosed the exterior off in Krylon Chalkboard paint, including the inside of the window unit to 'tint' it! This one will be a nice contrast to the 'tuner' version I'm working on. I think!
XJ6 Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 The Wheels..The wheels set the car off..just right with the flat black paint..Like
Joe Handley Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Nice, I did that with one back when they first brought that kit out, it still gets the looks when people see it http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v698/bjoehandley/Plastic%20Models/FWD%20Impalas/Rat%20Patrol/?action=view¤t=HPIM2492.jpg http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v698/bjoehandley/Plastic%20Models/FWD%20Impalas/Rat%20Patrol/?action=view¤t=HPIM2503.jpg

Foxer Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Talk about clean! I didn't know that car COULD look good!
Chuck Most Posted July 3, 2011 Author Posted July 3, 2011 (edited) See what I mean Yep, Danno's reaction is just the kind I was hoping for! (Not sure if he's reacting to yours or mine, or both, though!) Really liked the one you built, Joe- who says you can't do something nuts with a snap together cop car kit? Ron a.k.a. Grouchy Pants Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Nice work chuck! Nice and "under cover" looking
Joe Handley Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Yep, Danno's reaction is just the kind I was hoping for! (Not sure if he's reacting to yours or mine, or both, though!) Really liked the one you built, Joe- who says you can't do something nuts with a snap together cop car kit? Lol, Thanks Chuck! Can you imagine the looks if the to were parked next to each other on a contest table, peoples reactions alone could make for some good entertainment
Joe Handley Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 Gotta wonder why there aren't more modern cars like this in one form or another, I think that alot of the Snoozebox Buicks would have made decent late model Kustoms if done correctly
Joe Handley Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 You know, that Impala is a ridiculously fun kit for some reason. I made a nasty mud-n-dirty black and white (fictional Huntington Beach CA car...where it hardly ever rains and there's no mud) out of one, and have been toying with getting another..."just because." Glad to see a completely different take on one. That's some of the reason I built mine in this way...come to think of it, I've got a couple more that I never got it primer that need some attention too
