Reeves Racing Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 I got this kit in a trade and just didn't know what to do with it... Then it came to me... I am soooooo sick of all the General Lee builds why not build his arch nemisis. So here is the General Sherman a 69 Falcon former stock car that will tear up the old Gen Lee, I will be black with flames (sorry Atlanta) and have a Union Flag on the top.
Stickit2gether Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Dude I think that would be crazy great idea. Ill be following this one. I want to get a theme going with my models. I want to build any cars that have been used in movies and such, At least the more popular ones. I would love to do the mad max but that model is really hard to find. I thought about using a mach1 model and calling it the US version of mad max. Best wishes and keep us up to date on the progress.
Stickit2gether Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Oh and Christine with a tag KING on it would be cool. I have so many cool idea and limited funds and time. But soon as I can get back into the hang of it Ill be posting some pics!!
highway Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 This should prove to be interesting. I have a feeling once the DOH faithful find this, it may go down just like Atlanta, in flames!!
diymirage Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 looks cool my 2 cents...open the passenger door and weld shut the drivers

Jantrix Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Or you could cover it in lil scale arrows and call it the "General Custer".
Chuck Most Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Or you could cover it in lil scale arrows and call it the "General Custer". I've seen a couple of 'General Grant' Chargers, but I already like this one better because it's a Ford, and a Falcon no less. Hope to see this one finished and burning up cities and ripping up railroad tracks soon!
Harry P. Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Uh, wasn't General Grant the union counterpart of Lee?
Ryan S. Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 (edited) Uh, wasn't General Grant the union counterpart of Lee? Grant was the big dog for sure, but it was Sherman that lead the march through Georgia and Atlanta and eventually took over for Grant. Edit to add: Awesome idea for a build! Looking forward to this coming together. Edited July 27, 2011 by Ryan S.

Edit to add: Awesome idea for a build! Looking forward to this coming together. Sherman "took over" for Grant??? Lee surrendered to Grant. Both were the leaders of their respective armies. Sherman served under Grant. So if the "General Lee" would represent the southern states, then the counterpart for the other side would be the "General Grant." Hey, if he wants to do a "General Sherman," that's fine... or he could do a "General Meade" or a "General McClellan," but they're no "General Grant!"
Drake69 Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 You know what's scary? I'm sitting at my workbench, thinking about this build and how cool it could be, when I got to thinking about other "Hazzard concept cars". Then I look at the MPC kit, which is complete except for the wheels and pushbar. And think some more. Then I look at my other unbuilt kits and leftover parts along the wall, and REALLY start to think. Now I gotta finish my General Lee... I gots me a doozy coming next. Something for "General Sherman", Roscoe, and Boss Hogg to worry about! Hee hee......

Grant being the more equivalent counterpart to Lee Harry, but since this a poke fun at DOH (isn’t that what Homer Simpson says all the time?) I went with who I thought might be a more direct and personal irritation to Lee. Besides I wanted to do the flame job so I went with Sherman for his "scorched earth" reputation. Reeves Racing Posted July 27, 2011 Author Posted July 27, 2011 That's "scorched earth"... I just re-read that and caught it but you beat me to it
Reeves Racing Posted July 27, 2011 Author Posted July 27, 2011 People use the "lol" all the time, but I literally did laugh out loud when I read the apology to Atlanta line. This is hilarous. Thanks Mark, your posts crack me up all the time. I feel privilaged to have returned the favor.
Monty Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 True story: my first job was at a Co-op service station. (Co-ops used to be kind of a big deal in farming communities across the midwest). One of my co-workers was a Mopar nut who spent way more than he should have for a '69 Charger which the previous owner had painted as the Northern version of the General Lee. The paint was a medium blue with a Civil War-era US flag on the roof, "General Grant" along the sides of the roof and the number 00 painted on the doors instead of the General Lee's 01. Seeing the quality of the work, I could only surmise that DuPont had once offered a paint-by-Braille system and that a one-handed car painter had purchased one. For the most part, we were too tactful to disparage his dream machine, but he kinda got the idea eventually. He had stopped by the station on his day off to grab some Cokes etc for some picnic he was going to and had left his car parked alongside the building while he was inside. A few of us grabbed some Scotch tape and toilet paper and turned the 00 on his passenger door into C0-0P. The best part about it was, he had people laughing and pointing at his car in traffic, but didn't discover why until three days later.
Chuck Most Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Yeah, Grant was the the big dog, but Sherman? He was the nut job. (I.E., the one who was FUN to learn about in history class.) Monty- you might be onto something with that paint-by-Braille system, I mean, how could it have taken the guy THREE DAYS to notice the TP and tape lettering on the doors? Maybe it wasn't pretty, but wouldn't you have to concede that the fact a blind man could not only paint, but OPERATE, a car of any kind is pretty amazing?

Actually, I wrote that we only redid Dimwit's (nickname) passenger door. The paintjob had several indicators that it had been done by an amateur: flag stripes were of unequal width, bottom stripe was white, door numbers were different lengths and "General Grant" logos on the sides of the roof looked like an Asian font. Again, to be specific, I said: Seeing the quality of the work, I could only surmise that DuPont had once offered a paint-by-Braille system and that a one-handed car painter had purchased one.

Harry P. Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 And as far as the "General Grant"..... Now that's what I'm talkin' about!
David@MinidreamsInc. Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 are you keeping it a stock car or is it going to be a street car ?
