streetisneat Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Hey guys, i'm new here and this is my 1st post. It's the Revell 1955 Chevy Sportsman with some body mods. I filled the rear fenders, cut the trunk and the front end. Let me know what you think. Thanks
Harry P. Posted July 27, 2011 Posted July 27, 2011 Welcome! (But you need to add your full name to your signature. Forum rule).
streetisneat Posted July 28, 2011 Author Posted July 28, 2011 How could I make the lip around the rear fender or should I just leave it.
gasser59 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Looking good Paul. I always thought those wheelwell openings were too big. You may be new here but you're certainly not new to modeling. Welcome aboard.
W-409 Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Hey, welcome on the forum! Great looking Bel Air! That rear fender looks great and flip nose works fine with this one. I would leave that fender without the "lip", it looks just amazing right now. It's going to be really cool build!
brett Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Paul , if you want the lip either glue a thin strip of styrene around the opening on the bottom side (sticking out about 1mm) and putty around it on the guard to fill out the lip or glue a small strip along the flat guard and file to shape, hope thats clear enough
oldscool Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Welcome to the asylum and I like your screen name. I haven't heard "street is neat" since the 70s. gus
Dragracer Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 The '55 is lookin' good Paul.Really like the way you did the rear fenders,I would think that the fender lip would look good on the car to help match the front, doing it as Brett described works well. And by the way,Welcome to the Forum!
streetisneat Posted July 29, 2011 Author Posted July 29, 2011 Thanks or the welcome. I think that I will try putting the lip on the rear fender. What is the best way to strip chrome? I thought that drano might. Oldschool, you are correct. The car was a 67 Camaro, black with a tunnel ram, big tires rear and skinny front. Fast and wild.
Dragracer Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 Paul, there are alot of ways to strip chrome off, I myself use Simple Green, pour some in a small plastic tub, drop the chrome piece in, wait awhile(I check it about every half-hour),sometimes it takes awhile & sometimes it don't, all depends on the thickness of the plating I guess.
tyrone Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Richards right, I use Purple Power and it works really good...
streetisneat Posted August 14, 2011 Author Posted August 14, 2011 Hi guys, I finally got the chrome off the engine. I used drano and man did it work fast. I bought some metalizer lacquer by MM and do I need to use a primer 1st and if so what kind. Thanks
hOLMS Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 Welcome Paul...looking great on the body mods, nice clean work so far.
Dragracer Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Paul, I've used the Metalizer quite a bit on my engines,I don't always primer my engines & I haven't had any problems with the paint, & when I do use primer I myself use Rust-oleum, it seems to work pretty good for me.
hOLMS Posted August 15, 2011 Posted August 15, 2011 Hey Paul, got any more pix or updates? Anxious to see...
streetisneat Posted August 16, 2011 Author Posted August 16, 2011 Hi Jeff, I have dechromed the engine and I am trying to put the lips on the rear fenders and so far not good. I will post some photo's later this week. Thanks Richard for the info on the primer.
streetisneat Posted September 6, 2011 Author Posted September 6, 2011 Can anybody please tell me how to add more pics? I have tried uploading on my profile and also some cars and it just will not take anything.
