Janne Herajärvi Posted August 4, 2011 Posted August 4, 2011 Looking good, those bubbles are nice touch
wgflatliner Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 thanks guys. here's a small update. on the sides i did a light coat of pearl orange, then did some weird stripe design things with mask, then put a heavier coat of pearl orange over that. once it's cured, i will be doing touching up some black areas, and mask off some areas and throw down some metallic red in some parts. i'll keep y'all posted.
wgflatliner Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 some more progress. masked off the patterns, sprayed stop light red metallic over it. also did some of the red inserts along the rear trunk area. just need to integrate a couple more small things with the red. I also need to do one last shading of black along the sides.. light mist.
brett Posted August 5, 2011 Posted August 5, 2011 I think I feel ill cause thats some seriously sick work, great job
wgflatliner Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 haha, thanks for the comments, gentlemen. i have decided i want to fade the red on the sides into the little pattern area to kinda help make it look level.
wgflatliner Posted August 5, 2011 Author Posted August 5, 2011 (edited) the hood and trunk is done on the top side (under hood will be soon enough) added the final touches of the red stripes, and tear drops off the front fender emblems. and the side as of now.. lower part of the sides are done. gonna lighten up the black area in a fade, then follow up with some pink or something. i don't like how the black turned out on the sides, so i'm gonna lighten it up and do something to fix it I hope to get this paint under wraps over the weekend. wgflatliner Posted August 7, 2011 Author Posted August 7, 2011 howdy folks. i got the last color coat down. i decided against doing the fish scales, because i liked the color changing paint so much it's in the dehydrator now, and once it's done i'll move on to BMF and then wet sanding and buffing/polishing. This has been one SERIOUS paint job!!! roughly 14 or so hours put into it. i'll let the pics do the talking. green roof oh wait it's blue.. or is it purple? (it sure looks like it in certain lights) after it was cured, i did one last design on the roof and sprayed boyd's bright green.
wgflatliner Posted August 7, 2011 Author Posted August 7, 2011 paint is done! just gonna do the BMF and cut/polish it today, then work on the headliner, then the glass, etc. also gotta paint under the hood and do the hood jambs.
wgflatliner Posted August 8, 2011 Author Posted August 8, 2011 like the 61 i also got the foil work done on this. green w/ foil. blue w/ foil. the effect is simply awesome.
Dr. Cranky Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 It's hard work, but it's paying off, buddy. Love the colors and the graphics. It's a beauty!
horsepower Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 (edited) I think this is coming along very nicely, killer job! Just for thought, next time you do a color changing paint like the Kameleons, like you did on the top. Instead of using a straight metallic for a second color use a different shade of the "flip flop" paint, in this case I think the green to silver would have been a great choice. wgflatliner Posted September 1, 2011 Author Posted September 1, 2011 after some consideration and a long debate with myself, i have decided that the flip flop paint on the roof was clashing with the overall color theme of this car. So i painted over it, with a slightly darker base coat and using the same pinks purples and reds with some patterns and a fade. i like the look much better just need to re-do the trim and touch up the sides, and then it'll be ready for some clear!
Lunajammer Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 What a fantastic tutorial. I've learned much. Thanks for sharing. Heck I thought you were done about ten steps back.
Adam deCoste Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Very very nice paint job, its just amazing!!!!!!
wgflatliner Posted September 20, 2011 Author Posted September 20, 2011 i know it's been a whlie, but some updates on this. corvette LS something engine yanked from corresponding kit. i removed the trans and added the kit trans to the engine. black with alclad chrome center plenum, then painted the engine covers a color that corresponds with the body. also trying the foam/felt/mirror interior, and fish tanks for seat backs. yes. FISH TANKS. i know i'm a nut, but hey. i'll get progress pics on the second seat. the radiator wall is near complete, just gotta add the battery and a little detail paint. i used the corvette electric fan. the chassis is done in stop light engine red metallic, and poised in 3-wheel motion, scratch built the suspension parts that involve springs and hydraulic shafts. most of the chrome is alclad. I also touched up the paint on the car, and got a couple coats of future applied, sans the hood (which i shall do tomorrow) enjoy!
wgflatliner Posted September 20, 2011 Author Posted September 20, 2011 (edited) fish tank pics. btw, i did take off the ridiculous looking exhaust and re-did it. it's not perfect, but finished is better than perfect. in person they aren't as foggy and you can see through them.
