Chuck Most Posted July 14, 2012 Author Posted July 14, 2012 Chuck, I love this build, Fender Skirts would surely bring it to the 50's era! I'm wondering about the Chrome Strip on the side of the Car, Would you sell me a set of them? I have thought in mind on how to use a Pair!!! Email me at mfakai@aol.com I don't sell those, but I'm sure Norm would be more than happy to help you out- : replmincomd@aol.com
ausbuilder Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 greetings, i havent used this forum in nearly a year, so it seems... my question is, this, i see you've used the 51 chevy chassis for this kit, i've got the 51 too, what i need to know which side does the fender wells go on, do they go inside the ridge on the firewall or the outside... i hope this makes sense, i've had alot of problems with this kit i've bought a new one because the one i had i think i buggered, so if you can help me out that'd be great... cheers
Casey Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Skip the skirts, I say. Cadzilla proved you don't need 'em, and the model's never gonna get a flat anyway. What made you decide to remove the character lines from the front of the hood?

The inner fender wells should go on the outside of the firewall ridges if I recall- but it has been quite a while since I've built the '51 Chevy kit. What made you decide to remove the character lines from the front of the hood? They didn't follow the shape of the '50 grille all that well, so I'm going to redo them. The hood is also a bit too bulbous in front, and I wanted to tone that down a bit.
ausbuilder Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 cheers thanks for that, another question sorry to bug ya lol but how much cutting is required to get the 51 chassis to fit the chassis to a resin body ie like the one you've got here thanks for the info you just gave me too,
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Looking really great. That first primer shot grabbed my attention.
Bartster Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 l'd skip the skirts & use that extra-large panel for some extra-groovy paint. l love what you got going on here! Bart.

For this one I had to stretch the chassis quite a bit to match the Buick wheelbase. I also had to trim off the molded-in floor just behind the rear frame crossmemer, and cut down the rear wheel openings to get it to fit up into the body.
CemetaryAngel81 Posted July 15, 2012 Posted July 15, 2012 I want one of these,be checking out your build for sure...

Chuck Most Posted July 15, 2012 Author Posted July 15, 2012 I used this same body on an old JoHan Olds ('63 or '64) fullsize 'coaster' chassis, and employed a cut-down '66 Riv interior. I left the hood sealed on this one, and since the chassis had no provision for an engine that saved quite a bit of time. The Olds factory wheelbase was also quite a bit closer than the '51 Chevy. Oh, and in this pic you can also see the 'bulbous' nature of the front edge of the hood I was talking about earlier- I want to streamline the front profile of this one a bit.

Oh, I noticed it. A wise decision on your part. It'd better if the hood dipped down in between the fenders, like the trunk seems to dip down in between the quarter panels.
Chuck Most Posted July 15, 2012 Author Posted July 15, 2012 I'm going to bring down the hood a bit, but it'll still be over the fender line. In addition to jutting out, it's also slightly higher in front than in back- I think it would look a lot better if it were shorter in front and tapered up toward the cowl. Fortunately there's plenty of thickness in the resin, so I have quite a bit of material to grind away to accomplish that!
Chuck Most Posted November 12, 2013 Author Posted November 12, 2013 Just an update for those of you following this.... Nothing. No progress to report. None. But I'm "supposed" to be taking it to a show sometime this winter, so who knows...
Ace-Garageguy Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Man, git 'er done !! This is still one of my favorite long-term builds going on here.
george 53 Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Chuck, I've seen that blob BEFORE it's been bulit and I gotta give ya gredit for tryin to build a full detailed kit from it. Honestly, I don't think Jimmy EVER intended it to be MORE than just a curbside, the insides of that thing look slush cast. VERY uneven thickness throughout and really alotta work to bring it to a workable state. I commend you on your efforts. I KNOW it took ALOTTA work to get it to THAT stage! DON'T stop now, PULEEEEZE!!!!!
