lowriderphil Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 (edited) Since the 62 is done I need to start on something new. Revel 58 impala. Going 60s customs, thinking a tail dragger with lake pipes, two tone metallic deep jewel green top with the body in metallic hampsted green. Kit wide whites with 59 Dodge Royal Lancer hub caps. Dr. Cranky Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Oh I like those colors. Keep it going, this is going to be another good build.
Dominik Posted August 30, 2011 Posted August 30, 2011 Oha, my almost favorite 58 Impala. Keep it going, i'm curious!
lowriderphil Posted August 31, 2011 Author Posted August 31, 2011 Did a little work at the local club meeting tonight. Sanded down mold lines, removed drip rails, re-scribed panel lines, fitted rims to tires and set the ride height.
W-409 Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 This is going to be really nice build. I like '58 Impala body, and it's great start for a Custom project. With your building skills, it's going to be truly amazing when finished. Can't wait. I did mine few years ago, I ended up as this:
lowriderphil Posted August 31, 2011 Author Posted August 31, 2011 Still up in the air about using the cruiser skirts or not, such a shame to hide those lancer caps
W-409 Posted August 31, 2011 Posted August 31, 2011 No cruiser skirts, it would look much better without them. They just don't fit this style Custom, I think.
lowriderphil Posted September 2, 2011 Author Posted September 2, 2011 update, body in primer, still need to do more sanding on them pesky mold lines
Tonioseven Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Cover the mold lines in either Future or brush some liquid cement over them before you prime them again to keep them from re-appearing. (Thanks Bill Geary!)
lowriderphil Posted September 2, 2011 Author Posted September 2, 2011 Sprayed the dark green on the roof this morning before court, when i get home I'll shoot a quick coat of clear, it tends to dry dull
charlie8575 Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 I'd skip the skirts too, Phil. I don't think they'd go well with the rest of the car. Nice color choices, I'll look forward to watching this one get done. Charlie Larkin
Fat Rat Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 I hope to see more of this one. I always liked the 58 Impala's body style. I think you've added some unique touches so far.
lowriderphil Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 Well, hurricane irene rolled thru almost two weeks ago, but I don't think the rain got the memo, has been raining in MD all week. I have managed to do a few things, worked out the suspension and got the top painted. The flash brings out the metallic in the paint but the color is sooooo dark its hard to see without it. I think I may use the conni kit as well.
lowriderphil Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 Thanks T, I'd like to try and spray the body this weekend but I think its supposed to rain thru monday
lowriderphil Posted September 11, 2011 Author Posted September 11, 2011 Finally a break in rain, got color and a light coat of clear to show the true colors, I may lower the rear a bit just to level things out, just requires some trimming of the rear wheel wells.
lowriderphil Posted September 15, 2011 Author Posted September 15, 2011 Got the ride height in check, the only thing I don't like is how the rear wheels locate, I'm gonna have to snip off the mounting tabs and slide the axle back a bit before gluing, still up in the air on the lake pipes. I did pick out an interior color, gm light sage. gonna be stock mostly, just going for a very mild custom.
lowriderphil Posted October 13, 2011 Author Posted October 13, 2011 Got the pipes on, body is just resting on frame, once secured the pipes will rest just under the rocker chrome.
mytricia Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 very cool-great colors-can't wait to see more.!
charlie8575 Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Nice early '60s custom you have going here. Those colors work well together, too. Charlie Larkin
Nick Winter Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Very Nice, is that Green, Hampsted Green? I've got a can around here and wondered what it looked like. Nick
John Teresi Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 Phil......this is nice man......very cool looking build.
