cargostar Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 (edited) To keep my motivation on my other projects, I have started to tackle a '69-75 IH Travelall. Its been a slow build, but, I think the body has finally started to take shape. Edited September 2, 2011 by cargostar
jeffs396 Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Nice work so far Dave!!! Will you be having this reproduced in resin when finished? Wait til Chuck Most sees this
disabled modeler Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Very Nice Dave!.... My dad use to drive one of those and remember riding in it well.....needs to be put into plastic production.
Dr. Cranky Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Very interesting work on the body so far. Keep it going.
cargostar Posted September 2, 2011 Author Posted September 2, 2011 The hope is to cast it. The driveline parts out of a Scout kit will be the basis for the masters
AMT4EVR Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 WOW... I see flashing lights, a siren or two, oh yeah, don`t forget the stretcher, medical cabinets and throw in two or four spotlights and the words... AMBULANCE...RESCUE SQUAD...FIRST AID UNIT... and your all set. GREAT JOB !!!
gray07 Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 This is sweet, ive always wanted a real one with a lift kit to drive.
cargostar Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 A rescue squad? Just so happen to have 3 different 1:1 rescue/ambulance conversions that I can measure!!!! Yes, I'll be attempting them....
chuckyr Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Your post from Scale Firehouse. In the 1970s and early 1980s the Connecticut DOT used these extended Travelalls to shuttle passengers from area airports to passenger train terminals and vise versa. I remember them to be quick roomy. You had to admire the drivers making those turns. Your model would be a nice basis for these.
cargostar Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 That one is a Stageway "Airporter". That was shot as it was being picked up from my work after i rewired it and rebuilt the upper firewall and front 12" of the roof. The ambulance conversions were usually done by a division of IH called Springfield Equipment. There were two different raised tops, and several different lengths offered, and the came with a warranty thru the dealer. The first is a standard length, 10" raised top The second is an extended length, and 14" raised top.
mikemodeler Posted September 4, 2011 Posted September 4, 2011 This would be a great one to have in resin and I hope you are able to bring it to market! Next up would be the pickup version of this body style. I saw an old IH pickup from this year range the other day in SC that was sitting along side an old gas station and I can only imagine the tales it holds!
Chuck Most Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Oh- yes! Sign me up for one of these, AND a D-series pickup or ten!
mikemodeler Posted September 6, 2011 Posted September 6, 2011 Oh- yes! Sign me up for one of these, AND a D-series pickup or ten! Chuck is that a "1010" or a "1110" ? Sorry, couldn't resist!
cargostar Posted September 9, 2011 Author Posted September 9, 2011 Don't forget 1210, 1310, and 1510!!! They all share the same sheet metal! The only difference is capacity. The 1010 is a "light"duty 1/2 ton (torsion bar front suspension), 1110 is a heavy duty 1/2 ton with a solid axle and leaf springs, 1210 is a 3/4 ton, 1310 is a 1 ton, 1510 is a 1&1/2 ton. The 1110 thru 1310 share the same frame, the only difference is the springs and axles. The 1010 has a boxed frame due to the torsion bars, and the 1510 has a frame similar to the lighter trucks, except it is a straight rail behind the cab. Of course, that all went out the window in '74&5!
Chuck Most Posted September 9, 2011 Posted September 9, 2011 Might need to blow the dust off my '66 C-Series conversion- can't be too many IH trucks and wagons on MCM at once!
