samdiego Posted October 17, 2011 Posted October 17, 2011 (edited) My Hudson Project has been hijacked by something irresistible that came totally outta left field and involves this, The angriest Tootsie Roll ever. Done in 1/18, the first step in something a little different for me. Actual size: 3/8 by 1/8dia. Edited October 17, 2011 by samdiego
jjsipes Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 (edited) How many of you have spend less time cleaning up the body than the chassis? I didn't take but half the time to clean the mold lines on my body than it did to clean everything up on the chassis. I know some have commented on the mold lines on the body but mine wasn't that bad. And I have all trim intact yet. Edited October 19, 2011 by jjsipes
Chuck Most Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 None of mine had any excessive flash or bad mold lines, though I have heard the horror tales. I'm not gonna get too worked up over that though- isn't that what sandpaper is for?
Dr. Cranky Posted October 20, 2011 Author Posted October 20, 2011 I made quick work out of mine, not a problem.
Chuck Most Posted October 20, 2011 Posted October 20, 2011 Only serious flash on mine was all confined to the sprues, and none on the actual parts.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 21, 2011 Author Posted October 21, 2011 Yes, I had some of that on the sprues too.
Chuck Most Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Made a finned cylinder head for a 308 six- the engine may well end up sprouting a Paxton blower or twin turbos in the (hopefully) not-too-distant future.
tabsscale1 Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Okay so I have ahd my kit for a couple weeks. So here is what I have done. THe back window was thwhere I started the first cuts. Then I cut both sides and cut out an 1/8 of inches out out all three pillars The next step is to get it all attched and flowing in the right direction Trying to use the stock rear window
Chuck Most Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 That's a killer chop. What are your plans with the b-pillars- vertical or slanted?
tabsscale1 Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 That's a killer chop. What are your plans with the b-pillars- vertical or slanted? I just took the B Pillars out. Was going to do slanted ones but thought it would look better without them.
Chuck Most Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 Cool- that works too! I'm thinking of doing one chopped with slanted b-posts and custom side trim. If I get really ambitious I might section one. Not sure how workable that would be on a 1:1 Hudson being a unibody, but in scale I figure why not give it a go?
tabsscale1 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Here is a little more work done on the sides at the rear windows I use Ambroid pro weld and plastic to replace the plastic so this needs to set now. So while the glue sets here is what i did with the grill
Chuck Most Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Digging that DeSoto grille! The striped Hornet is at a standstill for the time being- I do have the 308 six shown earlier pretty much done. Pics will follow shortly. i dredged up an old AMC V8 from a Rambler kit that might end up powering the Hornet. It's a terrible engine, really, but its least-appealing aspects are pretty much hidden once its down in the Hornet's engine bay.
Chuck Most Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Here's the hot rodded 308. No, didn't add the blower like I'd planned, but I still have a few kit engines to experiment on.
jjsipes Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Here's the beginning of my Hudson Hornet model. Tamiya Racing Green on roof and Tamiya Park Green on body, straight out of spray can. I still need to clear the body. I think it looks like fifties colors. What do you guys think of it?
Chuck Most Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Not sure how unflinchingly '50's the colors may be, but they just look so RIGHT on that Hornet! Once all the chrome trim is applied, that's really going to pop.
tabsscale1 Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Here is the wheel and tire combo i decided to go with
Dr. Cranky Posted October 26, 2011 Author Posted October 26, 2011 Wow, you guys are making some outstanding progress. Chuck, that engine is very cool (and rust perfect). The chop is amazing. It's going to give this vehicle lots of style and attitude.
Chuck Most Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 No idea what kit this frame came from, but the 308 is a PERFECT fit.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 You guys are making some killer progress!
tabsscale1 Posted November 2, 2011 Posted November 2, 2011 Getting the body closer for paint. Decided to keep the drip rails.
Dominik Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 (edited) Today it was a happy day! One Hudson has arrived - second order overseas and very, very fast delivery :) . My first order from May is still coming at the end of this month. Dominik- not sure what exactly you have in mind for the kit, but judging from the rest of your models, it'll be very cool. Can't wait to see what you do with it. We will see what i will do - thoughts are done, work will come up next .looking forward to building it. ohhh yeah....what a lucky day Edited November 3, 2011 by Dominik
