Aussie Matt Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Thought I'd start on this as well, looks a bit rough at the moment.... Rear guards haven't been removed yet, other plans are chop the windscreen (was broken in the box) and corvair motor....turbo or twin webbers.
LAone Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 i like these volks rods. they look pretty cool, keep it going man.
Diesel Gypsy Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 A good start Matt to an interesting project. I'd go with the turbo.
crazyjim Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Looks like you're on the right track. Should be cool.
surfjunke Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Good start. I like it so far. This will look cool.
CorvairJim Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 "Corvair motor"? I like the way this is going! The "Blueprinter" engine set has a Corvair engine with the factory turbo setup, but a pair of 3-barrel Webers would look great on it too!
Aussie Matt Posted October 3, 2011 Author Posted October 3, 2011 Thanks Scott, thanks Jim! Yes I am using the Blueprinter engine, It is getting the turbo now, I found that the panel that the engine and trans mate up to is basically where the exhaust sits for the turbo version, so it will have a revised intake and exhaust setup (maybe not scale but should still look ok). The turbo carb will be replaced by a webber and it will use the blueprinter exhaust with a few extra bits added in. Not a fully detailed kit, but will get to the spark plug leads etc eventually. Cheers Matt
nybuilder Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 This is going to be a cool build love these volks rodz.
Aussie Matt Posted July 20, 2013 Author Posted July 20, 2013 Thanks for the comments, I will try and get back to this one as well soon!
codie27 Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Keep it goin, I think the plans for a Corvair motor sounds cool.
TFchronos Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I like were this is going, I'll be watching this one.
crazyrichard Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 knew exactly what i was going to look at when i read the title always loved volksrods .. looking sharp already !!
Ace-Garageguy Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Good wheel / tire combo to give it a nicely aggressive rake. Looks like that rear fender will have to be raised relative to the body, but it would be worth the effort. I personally think these always look better with the rounded-bottom hoods from the earlier cars. Great looking start.
Guest Johnny Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 I'd keep the rear fenders just radius them and bob them just beyond top center.
crazyrichard Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 (edited) for me the rear fenders need to go , i think that was his plan and make inner wells to close the gap .. ps the front axle positioning is perfect , its hard to create a real nice volksrod in 1:1 just google volksrod and you will find a lot of pictures of bugs without fenders ... those look horrible like they lost their fenders .. only with the right front axle and stance it will look right .. these days you have ready kits for them ... but the front axle needs to go forward and it needs to be narrowed ... and your build here looks great already Edited July 21, 2013 by crazyrichard
