Dr. Cranky Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Hello, folks, just curious if anyone has more information on this. I am assuming it is not a retool, right? http://www.modelroundup.com/product-p/rmx-4928.htm
Sixx Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 I wonder if it's based on the last issue of the 40? Although it's probably a reissue with some new parts?! Oh well, it's still cool!!
guysmilie Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 It looks like a straight reissue from the photo on Tower Hobbies site.
Exotics_Builder Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 It's a straight reissue as far as I know. I'll confirm next week at IHOBBY. I'll be there Thursday sniffing around, taking photographs and collecting any intel the exhibitors will share.
High octane Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 I sent an e-mail to Revell as to whether this was a re-issue in 1/24th scale or if it was to be in 1/25th scale and no response yet. At least with Round 2 they respond immediatelly.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 12, 2011 Author Posted October 12, 2011 Thank, we'll see what happens. I just hope they are releasing it in white plastic, the new Revell standard. Less flash, etc . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted October 12, 2011 Author Posted October 12, 2011 Thanks for the info, Dave. Yes, it's why I am interested, those opening doors! It also looks like they might put in there some new wheels and spiffy decals!
Dr. Cranky Posted October 12, 2011 Author Posted October 12, 2011 Yeah, I have a couple of those on the shelves . . . I guess I could make do with those.
niteowl7710 Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 This one is on the Revell October Release set on their website...the internet extends beyond these digital walls ya know... http://www.revell.com/model-kits/trucks/85-4928.html
Dr. Cranky Posted October 12, 2011 Author Posted October 12, 2011 It does build up into a nice model.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 12, 2011 Author Posted October 12, 2011 Yes indeed that's what this one needs. Lowered suspension, and wide whites! It they rework it I'd love to have a few.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 12, 2011 Author Posted October 12, 2011 I agree with you, Dave. I like the diamond pleated interior . . .
Jantrix Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 I have played around with this kit a bit recently. Some things hopefully have been addressed by Revell. Very bad hood fitment where it meets the cowl and the notches for the door hinges are over-large. Other than that, it's a good kit.
Craig Irwin Posted October 12, 2011 Posted October 12, 2011 Too bad it won't build stock anymore. Does anyone recast the old AAM resin stock parts?
scale trucker Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 this is a redo of the late 70;s early 80;when molded in blue plastic..was first issue with those wheels..i like the lemon crate version with the hurricane wheels..and funny the plastic was yellow and smelled like lemons....
Dr. Cranky Posted October 13, 2011 Author Posted October 13, 2011 Ah, LOL, you are not going to make me open mine and take a whiff!
62rebel Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 so what if it's the same version as the last reissue? not all of us have stashed unbuilts from the era, and regardless of the mixed styles and simplistic details, it builds up nice and straight and won't present an unsurmountable challenge for novice builders to produce a decent shelf sitter. if we make young builders shy away from this kit, Revell might be inclined to second-think more reissues later.....
Rob Hall Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 It's too bad they didn't at least change the wheels and tires...
Rob Hall Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 the "young" builders are probably mostly all in thier 30's. there are some younger than that but it's not a whole lot. I do wonder what the age range breakdown of active modelers are...when I go to shows or swap meets, the majority of the crowd seems to be 50+.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 13, 2011 Author Posted October 13, 2011 Rob, I think you are probably right. My experience is that this is a hobby for the middle ages! LOL. Every once in a while I see kits and a few teenagers. I think sometimes you get guys in their early twenties hooked . . . but it's getting rare these days.
Eshaver Posted October 13, 2011 Posted October 13, 2011 I built the Re- issue that was a Red plastic several years ago. Course I once had the Original Teal Stock/ Rod of years ago too. The hood never was a strong point on that kit nor were the operating windows either . I was able to raid parts of A M T kits to replace the long gone stock truck I had from years ago. Careful sanding can remove the lovers on the tailgate. The hood lovers came off easily and The side pipe ends molded with in the running boards wern't too much of a bother . Making a stock seat was a breeze . Simply fill the Pleated pattern smooth . This truck lends itself well to raiding of parts from other kits . A 59 A B Flathead can be made from any A M T kit and still "Look " right . Use yer imagination a little ! Look at the lower Left corner , the 40 Ford waits patiently against the building . Ed Shaver
Dr. Cranky Posted October 13, 2011 Author Posted October 13, 2011 That's a beautiful scene, Ed. I think this kit has potential, if they do it right.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 14, 2011 Author Posted October 14, 2011 Beautiful job on that truck. Very classy!
Casey Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 The hood never was a strong point on that kit nor were the operating windows either. I noticed the side windows on the Revell link picture. Are they truly operational or are they posable? I forgot this kit was released as part of the Monogram Classics line a few years ago, too:
