Dr. Cranky Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 The other day while cleaning out the old loft where I used to have my bench, I ran across a plastic box with about three complete Willyses kits, and so my heart leaped and I decided to quickly put them to good use . . . And came up with these two street rascals. I wanted to capture the contrast between a clean, smooth chassis, interior and engine versus a ratty exterior . . . something perhaps out of Rebel Rodz or Ol' Skool Rodz. This kit will always be one of my favorites by Revell. It builds ultra nice, easy, and you can build one, really in about 3 days . . . Hope you enjoy. The rolling chassis: The interior: The finished models: Stay tuned in for a few more . . .
Dr. Cranky Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 I still have to add the door handles and a few other little details . . .
Chuck Most Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Sweeeeeeeeeeet. Dig the Ford grille on the gray one.
Terror Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 No, it's gonna be a great day. Thanks for posting these Doc, very cool.I think I like the gray one too.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 Thanks, I went through my parts box finding cool grills and fender from other kits and modified a few, but these were the ones I liked the most. I think this makes about the 14th or so 41 Willyses I build so far, and I am sure I am forgetting a few that ended up getting broken or ruined . . . a couple I gave to friends (that was the last time I gift models to anyone) and they returned them in pieces, claiming they'd fallen off their shelves . . .
Jantrix Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 They look great Doc. I have one of these cooling it heels on my shelf. I'm undecided on how to build it. I like the tri-power idea though.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 Rob, I found it in my parts box and of course could not guess where it had come from but when I fit it on there I knew it'd look perfect. Glad you like it. If any of you have not build one of these Revell 41 Willys (STREET RODS), I'm telling you you don't know what you are missing.
Sixx Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 mmmnnyeah, ( crunch, crunch ) what's up Doc?? Man Doc, those are totally cool man!! I agree that the Revell Willys kits are awesome. I've done a boatload of em too!
Dr. Cranky Posted October 18, 2011 Author Posted October 18, 2011 Thank, Derrick, they sure are . . .
crazyjim Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 You know how I like SHINY, but those Willys' are pretty cool.
Harry P. Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Man, I love those! Too cool! I can't decide which one I Iike better... ok, I decided I like them both!
Chuck Most Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 I keep picturing the wheels and tires from the yellow one on the gray one. Does that make me twisted?
bobthehobbyguy Posted October 18, 2011 Posted October 18, 2011 Great models. What did you use for the white walls ? Didi they come that way or did you paint them? If so what paint did you use? Bobthehobbyguy
surfjunke Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 They are both great. Very cool. Nice paint & weathering. The custom grills are unique & look cool as well.
Dr. Cranky Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 Thanks, maties. Chuck, I can make that happen, my friend. Nothing is glued down so I can switch all the elements. How's that for cool? That's why I love these 41 Willyses. They hold together without much glue! LOL!
Dr. Cranky Posted October 19, 2011 Author Posted October 19, 2011 Thank you, Damir. I appreciate the kind words, and I see you too are addicted to rust! LONG LIVE RUST!
1320wayne Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 Virgil, those are both awesome. I love the wide whites, especially the pro street tires on the yellow one. Did you paint those on and if so what paint did you use on the tires? Also, does the nose of the yellow one drop down just a bit?
matador88 Posted October 19, 2011 Posted October 19, 2011 NICE! very nice. the only small detail i dont like is that pinup lady decal, but its just the matter of personal view. man, Id like to view your display with all that gems together..
