Our insurance seminar is over, It was not my fault. They were on the wrong side of the seat and being inside the car the judge threw the non working tail lights out.

O well here is the Jada bigtime muscle.

Now, as to my entry: I am starting with the Revell 2010 Mustang GT Coupe. Along the lines of our own MrMike, I will be doing a storyline (fictional for the most part) of how the 'real' car came to be, along with documenting the build. Photos will accompany the build process, and will be interjected with the story. So, who's up for some S197 storytelling?

The Story (pt 1)

I got tired of working on airplanes, and tired of Ohio in general. Deciding I needed something different and being involved in automobiles my whole life anyway, I decided to use the remainder of my G.I Bill to help fund an Engineering degree, specializing in automotive and powertrains at that. Driving around in my trusty old FOX Mustang, I knew I wanted to apply to Ford when I finished. 4 years and a lot of sleepless weeks later, I have my degree, still tooling around in my Fox. Telling PSA Airlines that sand can be packed, I headed 3 hours north (wrong direction for a Florida Cracker to head) to see what I can do in Detroit. Applied to Ford, and was hired! Great, I am in! So, 2 years into Ford and designing brackets for front dress (not what I had hoped for), I went to my bosses to see what I could do about getting onto 'Team Mustang'. I was told to go back to my Focus project. That does it, I will show these guys what it is to be me!

Kicking around the salvage yards and Insurance claim pools, I stumbled upon a theft-recovery 2010GT Mustang Coupe.........but man was it rough. Missing the drivetrain, computer, wiring harness, seats, and wheels/tires/brakes, it had been stripped. Front end and hood were pretty bent up from where the tow-truck driver had stated it was driven/dumped into the ravine. Trunk spoiler was absolutely a mess, and some of it was even missing. All in all, a write-off. After some words and cash exchanged hands, I had the base for my 'project'. Tony wanted $20 and a six-pack to flatbed this shell back to my place....deal! I'll have to butter up the landlord later. As I sit and stare at the car, I get this idea. It will take work, sleepless nights, and maybe even some petty thievery, but I know what I want to do and I WILL DO IT! I see a tribute Mach1 in this shells future! Let the games begin.

Brad, I really like your backstory and you are off to a great start with it! I look forward to the next chapter of this piece of the Great American Novel! :) And your build, too!

A quiet Saturday morning with the wife still in bed gave me the time I needed to get the stripe decals on.

I'll let these dry for a day and then clearcoat the body tomorrow. After looking at my completed '06 and up Mustang builds on the shelf, I have decided to change the design of the airbox to something a little more stock looking. Since I still have my sheet of styrene still on the bench, I'll make a new one that is better looking than the one that I have now.

Getting closer to finishing her up, Mike! Looking good.

OK, if any of you guys are contemplating lowering the 2010GT or GT500; there are two ways to do so.

1) Get the snapper, make the GT or GT500 a curbside and use the chassis from the snap kit.

2) Pack a lunch, some razor saws, lots of courage and Fine-tip Sharpies, a good bit of putty and files/sandpaper, boo-coo glue, and a heaping helping of 'HOLY COW' preventative. These things are a mother to get sitting 'right' (read: as low as the real cars can go). The front takes massive surgery to the fender wells/frame caps/shock towers to even get remotely close to workable. I have been sitting here, doing measurements and marking them out with the sharpie marker. The darn things look like a checkerboard of 'cut this much out here' and 'file this here', along with 'relocate this to here'. I put the firewall into the engine bay temporarily to get a good look at the whole package, and all I can say is that I am taking the interior pan/engine bay-front inner fender assembly to work with me to try to figure out how I am to butcher this. I am bringing a lot of styrene too, as it will be a need. The chassis side is easier; just take the k-member mounting tabs on the frame rails and shave them down to about 1/3 their original height. I will post pics when I make some appreciable progress with the cutting/relocating.

Clearcoating was the order of the day. Several very light coats of Tamiya TS-13 built over a span of 15 minutes and a wet coat of clear half an hour later.

I'll let this dry for a while before I polish it out.

Listen,I may be offline a bit,and I probly won't get to the bench for a bit either (like, rest of 2011 maybe-and yes I know that means blowing dust off that Bullitt when I get at it =/),I have a semi-local friend who just had life reach up and take a BIG bite out of him,so's I'm gunna be spendin time helpin out there,as well as all the chaos that is the last 2 weeks of every year. I should make it back on sporadically, but in case I miss any of ya's,from mine and me to alla youse and yours,we wish y'all a very safe, merry Christmas, and the happiest of New Years :)

Last night I installed the body over the interior and chassis and then went to bed. This morning I looked in on the Shelby only to find that the drivers side of the front had separated from the fender. It reminded me of the issue my friend Randy had with his Grabber Blue 2010 Mustang GT.

GT50051.jpg

I have since repaired the joint, will attempt to touchup the chipped paint (my fault), and continue with assembly. While that was drying, I found some images on Google Images of the open element air filter that is on the 2011 Shelby GT500. I have made one out of some sheet styrene and will be painted semigloss black.

When I get the body and chassis reunited, I'll add the new airbox and make any adjustments necessary for a proper fit.

Mike, I cant tell how many times that has happened to me, heck it happened to me last week on my 68 bullitt build. I am looking forward to seeing the new cold air box you are building.

Kenneth, welcome to the the CBP, I like where you are heading with your stang, love the flared fenders you are working on.

I have touched up the joint and have assembled the body, interior and the chassis together for the last time, but it is almost like this one is starting to fight me. I am going to do my best at finishing this one so I can move on to something else. This project has been sitting on the bench for too long and I have other projects that I want to start on. I will continue to move forward...

If I get one of these kits soon, I might jump in. I'm planning to do something like this, Super Stocker......

6_262518.jpg

But first I need to buy that kit.... I'll buy one from the local Model Car contest which is coming soon, if I have money.

Is this a kit with decals or do you have to buy the decals aftermarket? I'm currently building an original 68 CJ and would love to have this one to go with it.

Well, Christmas cash brought me a 1/12th Revell 2010 GT500, a 1/25th Revell 2010GT Convertible, and another 1/25th Revell 2010 GT500. Looks like after the holidays, I will have to get more up on my GT-t0-Mach1 conversion and get these 3 into the line-up somewhere.

This is how I lower the new Revell Mustangs. The picture below shows the front disc brakes with the one on the right modified. By removing the bottom of the mount, I can move the brake disc up on the front spindle or on the rear axle. Moving the disc up will lower the car to a more realistic level.

GT50054.jpg

I usually use the mounting pin that comes with the kit, but I wanted to try something a little different that I had read about. I used a piece of round stock and glued a short piece into the pin retainer and wheel. I will use a set of business cards under the chassis and set the ride height I want and then I will glue the brake disc to the wheel and then the brake disc to the suspension in the position I want.

GT50055.jpg

While the glue sets up on the wheels, I went ahead and started detailing the brakes.
