Junkman Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Not sure whether I should even show it, because it turned out so badly. Built it about 10 years ago in a hotel room while on an assignment in Dublin. I'm glad it was taken off me by a Friend.
charlie8575 Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 If that's bad, I want to see what good is. Charlie Larkin
Junkman Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 If that's bad, I want to see what good is. Charlie Larkin Something where the bumpers and rear window fits...
Dr. Cranky Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Christian, I like it. Nice color, and it's a wonderful model.
philo426 Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 (edited) Doesn't look bad at all!I painted my Edsel the same color! Edited November 10, 2011 by philo426
Harry P. Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 That's not so bad! I've seen much worse posted here. Nice color!
High octane Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Bad??? That Imperial looks nice and I really like the color and interior also.
Junkman Posted November 10, 2011 Author Posted November 10, 2011 (edited) Thanks guys! But let me tell you what I find worth criticising: - The 'glass' is ill fitting. After more than thirty years, I am still very unsatisfied with my glass work overall. - The foil work is a bit heavy handed. This may have to do with the fact, that at the time my eyesight was already dwindling without me noticing it. It may turn out better now after I got my glasses. - The front bumper/grille assy is hanging off the model. This should have been corrected before the photos were taken. The colour is BMW Boston Green Metallic, and it does a good job approximating 1957 Chrysler/Imperial Sherwood Green Poly. I will never ever use such a dark colour on a '57-'63 Imperial again. These cars only look good in light colours. Edited November 10, 2011 by Junkman
Greg Pugh Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Yeah, that's a real turd. Looks good to me!
62rebel Posted November 10, 2011 Posted November 10, 2011 Christian; for a resin build from ten years ago, please stop criticising your work. it makes the rest of us look like low grade morons. my wife looked over my shoulder and said "that IS a model, isn't it?".......
MrObsessive Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Gorgeous Imperial! The glass doesn't look bad-------resin kits though are one of those things that you have to test fit the glass over and over. That's just the nature of the beast. I'd love to pick up one of those kits as I like anything Mopar from '57-'59.
Harry P. Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 I think you're being way too critical of yourself. That model looks pretty darn good to me.
Eshaver Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Christian, in all seriousness, I was the owner of a wrecker service . I stayed in this obscene business for too many years . In that time , i have witness wreckers actually cause the damage you point out on the Imperial . Yes sir , pull up with a typical Crane wrecker , slam dem chains under , hoist em up and jerk the clutch. I have seen more than one heavy car's bumpers re- aligned by these "Rocket ship pilots " as they perform their duties .............. Ed Shaver
RodneyBad Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Nice looking Imperial Paint and BMF looks perty good. Nice work
Chuck Most Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Bash it all ya like, Christian, but I can't find a single thing to dislike about it. If this is one of your 'baddies', I've got a good home for any others you might not be fond of and want out of your hair.
Sixties Sam Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Love it! Those old Imperials were beauties, and your model looks great to me! Nice work! Sam
Junkman Posted November 11, 2011 Author Posted November 11, 2011 I really do appreciate your kind remarks, thank you so much. Yes, the model is quite nice. But as you may have gathered by now, I am my harshest critic. The model does lack the finesse, which I sometimes see in other builds in here. I have no idea how some people manage to get their models razor sharp in detail. Honestly, I am not set out to make anybody look low grade. But in the end, only the best is good enough. I will keep trying to get better, but you lot do a great job to help me lose my anxiety to post my models here.
peekay Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 I think this came out really well. I have an original '58 convertible and the rereleased 59 (for parts). I would also choose this colour. Sounds like you have a high dose of perfectionism. That may dampen your satisfaction but obviously also leads to great models.
Junkman Posted November 11, 2011 Author Posted November 11, 2011 I would also choose this colour. BMW Boston GrĂ¼n Metallic. You should be able to get it at any motor factor's in Switzerland. It really looks like Sherwood Green Poly.
peekay Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Thanks Christian. Actually I always mix my own colours - with varying degrees of success, I admit, but it's something I enjoy and one develops an eye for it. For the past few years I've been using Zero acrylics from Hiroboy.com in England. These go on very nicely but have to be clear-coated. They cost me less than anything I could buy here, with postage. Switzerland is expensive - American kits cost 40-45 US dollars now, BMF $16 a sheet, so I tend to shop online and offshore.
Guest Gramps-xrds Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 I think it looks great. As for the fit issues, well you can have problems with any kit especially those old Jo-Han kits. You did it justice and I for one would have kept it.
surfjunke Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Looks great from here. Very nicely done for an older build of a resin kit. Great paint & foil work as well.
