Nick Winter Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 Back when my grandfather was in the Navy and stationed on diffrent ships, he sometimes modelled them, almost always when he was on that ship, (so there's no way the can be called inaccurate), my grandfather has since had to give up modelling do to his shakeyness, but now his tools are in my hands. THESE are 100% from scratch, even the cases (there's a plaque for this ship too, well everyone he was on, just can't find the picture) Nick

Nick Winter Posted December 12, 2011 Author Posted December 12, 2011 Chris, I'm not sure, when my grandfather gets back from florida or I'm talking to him, I'll ask him. Nick
Coned Tony Posted February 6, 2012 Posted February 6, 2012 Beautiful. Very detailed. Nice to have as a heirloom
kenb Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I build ships as well. They are beautiful. When my grandfather was in the navy he started out on sailing ships. Then went on to steamers. He sailed around the world with the great white fleet. He built models of his ships also. Quite a few sailing ships. When he passed away in the early sixties my uncles got all of them. I never saw them again. The only thing I got was a large clipper hull about 30" long that he carved. Found it in my mothers house a few years back. Make sure you hang on to those ships forever. Hand them down to your kids. Ken
David G. Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Treasure those and be proud of them! Your grandfather has provided you with a great legacy, thank you for sharing it with us. David G.
