stulee11 Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 It's liquid. And If you find it, and test it, it's better to use clowes to protect your hands. I know, it doesn't feel good in hands, but it hurts very badly, if you manage to get it in your face. I know that... i hope this doesn't sound rude as i don't mean it to but do you no what the "english" traslation is for "Kodin Putkimies" ? as i can't find any liquid i can only find the "gel" drain unblocker
W-409 Posted February 3, 2012 Author Posted February 3, 2012 Well, Google Translator says "Household Plumber", and I guess that's as close as I can guess. It's somekind of liquid, what cleans pipes in your house. Mr.Muscle may be even closer. I guess, somekind of Hardware stores would MAYBE have that kind of stuff....
Terry Sumner Posted February 3, 2012 Posted February 3, 2012 I wonder if Drano would be the same thing here in the states. I never thought to try Drano or Liquid Plumber as I always have used EasyOff oven cleaner...
W-409 Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 Yeah, it's possible, and I guess, that you have better liquids there, like Purple thing (what was it?) and that Easy Off. We don't have so much of these liquids what remove paint.
SuperStockAndy Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 LOL Niko, it's Purple Power (on this site it's known as Purple Pond).
W-409 Posted February 4, 2012 Author Posted February 4, 2012 Thanks for the name, Andy! '69 Nova had originally Rochester Carburetor, and that one what is in Revell kit, presents a Holley. So I guess, I'm going to change it. Found Rochester 4bbl carburetor from Revell's Black Widow kit, and after bit of drilling, I managed to get it looking like this. I also glued little piece of Styrene to the underside of the carburetor. Then I drilled two holes to it, and added some metal wire to them. This helps me to cast few Resin Quadrajets, hopefully they turn out good.
SuperStockAndy Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Very cool, I've always wanted to drill out a carb. Gotta love QuadraJunks!
oldscool Posted February 4, 2012 Posted February 4, 2012 Very cool, I've always wanted to drill out a carb. Gotta love QuadraJunks! That's not a Quadrajet but the precursor to the Quadrajet. gus
6bblbird Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I remember the Mr. Muscle commercials on T.V. many years ago. It looks as though it is still sold world wide under the Mr. Muscle brand name but here in the U.S. it is now a Drano branded product. WF
gasser59 Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Twenty years or so ago, I used to use Mr. Muscle Oven Cleaner in the green can for remaoving spray paint. Now I can't find it any where. This stuff was great but really powerful and you had to wear gloves or it would eat through your skin in no time. I know, it doesn't sound very pleasant but it really worked on spray paint.
W-409 Posted February 9, 2012 Author Posted February 9, 2012 (edited) Ok, I casted 14 Rochester Carburetors, and here is the first one painted and installed. Bit rough still, but I'll be doing just a little cleaning before I add details to it. I think those carburetors turned out pretty well, they actually look better in person. Alan Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Dave the ones that refere to them as junk don't know diddly squat, I just got a New Race prepped Q-Jet from Jet Performance for a BBC and let me tell you the throttle response is instant with ZERO bog in 4000lb 72 Monte with TH400 and 4:11 12 bolt
W-409 Posted February 10, 2012 Author Posted February 10, 2012 the Quadrajet seems to have gotten that "junk" name and reputation from people who couldn't tune or rebuild them correctly. they do have a few unique issues to them but it's funny to me to see them called Quadrajunks and labeled as such great carburetors when they are tuned right and super fun too when they are opened up at WOT. All you say is true. Rochester carburetors are really good when they are tuned right. If you look at these Stockers on real Drag Strip, they go really nicely, doesn't matter that there's Rochester carburetor under the hood.
W-409 Posted February 10, 2012 Author Posted February 10, 2012 (edited) Huge Thanks to Walter (6bblbird), who sent me NHRA Rulebook! This is great book, and helps me alot, not only in these Stockers, but other projects too. But I guess, those Stocker pages are going to get read very often. Thanks again! I also uninstalled that Carburetor, it needs some work before I can change it again. Edited February 10, 2012 by W-409
W-409 Posted February 24, 2012 Author Posted February 24, 2012 I cleaned the carburetor a bit, and it looks much better now. Now perfect, but OK for me. Also removed the fuel pump and fuel line to Holley Carburetor, and new fuel line is installed to Rochester carburetor. I will scratchbuild new electric fuel pump and fuel filter later. First picture shows what I removed from the engine, the second one is with the carburetor installed and new fuel line glued on its place.
Mister Twister Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 That rule book will be a great help and your detail work looks nice. Keep at it!
W-409 Posted March 8, 2012 Author Posted March 8, 2012 (edited) Thanks very much, Darryl! That Rulebook is really good, and helps me alot. Nova is red again, and looks pretty good I think. I'm going to add clear coat and decals. After clearcoat, it's time to test that Polishing set... Coming up next-the fuel pump. Edited March 8, 2012 by W-409
Romell R Posted March 8, 2012 Posted March 8, 2012 Enjoying your build Niko Keep up the excellent work.
W-409 Posted March 9, 2012 Author Posted March 9, 2012 Thanks Andy and Romell! Glad to hear, you're enjoying. Decals are now on their place. All of the decals are from the kit, and they fit fine. I'm going to spray some clear over this body on sunday. Sorry about the poor pictures, lightning wasn't perfect.
W-409 Posted March 11, 2012 Author Posted March 11, 2012 Body is clearcoated now. I it needs some polishing, since there's some dust now (last picture). But otherwise I'm pretty happy about it. Now just needs to let it dry for few days.
W-409 Posted March 15, 2012 Author Posted March 15, 2012 I had to try what happens when I test my polishing set... Nova's top is now pretty shiny, but there are some very little scratches on the paint. My finest grit was only 8000, and I need to have some finer grits too. Maybe 12000 is enough to smooth and shiny paintjob. The top is polished now up to 8000, but otherwise the body is polished up to 4000. But now I'm going to finish two fast builds before this one, because their deadline is coming closer and closer. You can see the scratches in that second picture...
W-409 Posted March 30, 2012 Author Posted March 30, 2012 Other side of the body is polished now, well maybe a bit work to do still, but it looks pretty good. I will polish another side also, and maybe next week I can start foiling this body. It's pretty shiny, huh?
garryrenfro Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Great project! As far as I'm concerned, the stock and bracket classes represent the most interesting aspect of drag racing.
