Shelbytona Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 (edited) Hey, I decided to sign up here since there's a lot of good info and some nicely built models! Here is a model i recently finished up.. this wasn't an easy one to build and isn't very accurate. Especially under the hood, but it was my only choice on this car. This is the fifth model i built recently, i used to build them a lot when i was a kid like 15yrs ago. I'll post up my other 4 builds later on. This one is pretty much box stock, except i added a roll bar and seat belts. I also cut the grille out and put mesh behind it. I ran out of spark plug wire, so i might do that later when i get it... i don't really like the under the hood anyway since its wrong, so it will stay closed anyway. Here's some pics, Edited December 23, 2011 by Shelbytona
Shelbytona Posted December 23, 2011 Author Posted December 23, 2011 Very nice Mustang. Clean build. Thanks! I forgot to add i flocked the floor as well. This was the round 2 one molded in lime green... it had the worst mold lines i've ever seen on a model.
David G. Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 A very good build- the interior is excellent! David G.
Shelbytona Posted December 23, 2011 Author Posted December 23, 2011 Here's my Munsters Dragula. i did it as close as a could to the real thing.
Shelbytona Posted December 23, 2011 Author Posted December 23, 2011 (edited) My 1959 Ford Galaxy Skyliner... another tricky one to build.. the roof all works on it. Edited December 23, 2011 by Shelbytona
W-409 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 (edited) That Nova looks fabulous! Paintjob is truly amazing, and very realistic engine detailing. Nice builds, I would be VERY proud of them. And welcome to the forum! Edited December 23, 2011 by W-409
Dirkpitt289 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Love the Shelby (Have one in stash) and love the Drag-U-La car. I really want one of those. What was it like to build? How do you do your seatbelts? Tape and PE buckles? If so where do you get the buckles from?

If so where do you get the buckles from? the drag-u-la car wasn't too bad to build.. if you want it to look realistic you'll have to strip a lot of chrome and paint it polished brass (alclad paint) same goes with the munsters coach which i still have to finish! i'll have to double check who makes the seatbelt parts... the material is 1/8" ribbon from walmart.. it comes in a big roll for about $1 That Nova looks fabulous! Monty Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Welcome to the board, Randy! That Mustang has been around forever, which would explain the mold lines. And you're right - it's not terribly accurate, but it's about the only game in town when it comes to '68 Shelbys. I still can't believe they couldn't be bothered to put the correct wheels in the kit when they designed it. Nonetheless, you did a great job with what they gave you. Is the retractable Ford a multi-piece body? I love how that tuned out. What red paint did you use on that? Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Its been around since 1968? it sure looks like it was! yeah the wheels were junk, three of the wheels didn't have the lug nuts moulded into them! i just stripped them and painted them in alclad polished aluminum. the tires seem to big too... oh well. yeah it was a multi piece.. pretty tricky making everything work! this one looks to be from 1959.. it wasn't as bad as the shelby, but lack a lot of detail too. the Nova is an awesome kit! no complaints on that one at all. I'm not sure what the paint was... it was some old base coat i had laying around. it was dupont base coat clear coat.
promo55 Posted December 23, 2011 Posted December 23, 2011 Those are very nice models, your paint and detailing is excellent! Yes, the Skyliner dates from '59. I have seen 2 more where the top worked properly. You did a first rate job on getting that complex assembly working correctly! Very good!
