RodneyBad Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Nice Idea with the Hinges Agent Nice Rig Hippie I Got slow progress but some is done.
ZombieHunter26 Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 I'm loving the progress so far on everyone's stuff. I was on the same page with Cranky about hoping this thread would explode into action! It did not disappoint. My submissions will be telling a story, each new build taking 842 Grievous Wound (my 2nd vehicle in this build) across the war-stricken country as our heroes meet several different survivors, each with their own personal vehicles that have been modified to fit the environment they reside in. Each build will also be joined by a diorama, to set the mood, and accompanied by an appropriate journal entry/entries. I'm not necessarily doing this to outshine anyone by far- I just enjoy telling a story through all mediums, be it building, writing, drawing... I hope some of you decide you'd like 842 Grievous Wound to run across your particular survivor (the driver of your built vehicles) at some point. It would make for some awesome plot builds and also bring your build to life even further. My next build/journal entry is going to be based somewhere in deep in the swamp... I wonder what Enrico will find there? ...til next time!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 17, 2012 Author Posted January 17, 2012 Well said, Rob. Rodney, I am like all the details and additions you are making on your model. Very good, keep it going. Keep the eye candy, coming . . . there's room for everyone and lots of time to have the CARAVAN stretch out into the horizon!
David G. Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 (edited) That's something I've never really 'gotten' about Apocalyptic vehicle models myself... it is almost always a '57 Chevy, or an old muscle car, or something like that. To my way of thinking, 'classic' cars like that would retain their value in a post apocalyptic world- maybe even taking the place of currency in some situations. Then again, the sheer 'cool factor' and relative lack of anything late model in kit form could be factors too, I guess. Maybe it's because they are rather simple machines made of heavy guage steel that can be repaired and modified using simple hand tools. There are also no computer chips to be fried by the EMP from the nukes. Or maybe these were the cars that the movie producers had available to them in the 70's when movies like this began to become popular. David G. Edited January 17, 2012 by David G.
Chillyb1 Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Rodney, I'm loving the retractable armor over the windows. I've been trying to come up with some way to do something similar. I'll try to get some photos of my project once I finalize all the stuff I'll be using. Keep up the inspiring work, folks.
Hollywood Jim Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Hey ! Hippie Agent G RodneyBad I love what you guys are doing. Great ideas and gerat scratch building !!!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 17, 2012 Author Posted January 17, 2012 David G, I think you have a point. In the 60s and 70s you could probably buy all those old cars dirt cheap, and boy it seems like they went fast. I think for this kind of build, anything is possible. Shoot, there's someone over in Australia who goes by the name of Jeff who is building all sorts of neat machines with spares parts from all around, hardly uses a standard plastic kit. I hope everyone stays inspired and continues to share the eye candy. It's long ways to December 2012, then again it's also possible it's just around the corner!
B-dub Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 heck for $15 this isn't a bad kit to use to modify... in process of breaking the trailer back down to glue it together then I'll bondo a couple spots and ATTEMPT.. to get rid of the massive seam.. but idk how well I'll do
Dr. Cranky Posted January 17, 2012 Author Posted January 17, 2012 You bet, that's a great price for all that styrene. The tank alone is a very cool piece to have.
Tony-442 Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Nice Idea with the Hinges Agent Nice Rig Hippie I Got slow progress but some is done. Love the look of this... It's gonna look mean when it's weathered... Good Job
UncleRonsBarn Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Well, I've got started on my entry. Fist I had to decide on a model: After that Parts to put with it. Found some Bionicle and Zoid parts that fit the build: Then I had to do alot of custom work to fix the lame 1 piece chassis, and interior tub: With the interior tub figured out I move on to the chassis and some of the body mods: My thought is that gas and diesel supplies are going to run out quick. So in an imaginary future I will use electrolysis to change water into hydrogen which burns at 2 1/2 times the BTU of gas and use it for my fuel, meaning I can use the big block muscles without worries of running outta fuel. The electricity used in the electrolysis will be the heat and solar power which will be abundant. Just a thought.
patami Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 (edited) Some eye candy for you Thats a ray gun on the roof. And some waterdrums in the back. Dr cranky is it ok whit that engine? It s a half engine only. In other case i have to get me a beef up mountain engine. Zombi piercing spikes in the front and on the both sides Edited January 17, 2012 by patami

Very cool. I love all these rides. Keep them coming! Wow, you guys are on a great streak!
Dr. Cranky Posted January 17, 2012 Author Posted January 17, 2012 Folks, for those of you who yearn to keep the inspiration going, please check out the brand new issue of RATROD MAGAZINE. Yes, indeed, they are doing their own version of this and they are calling it the RATPOCALYPSE!
mikey Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 (edited) I just want to thank the DR. for this community build because it got me out of my slump. Edited January 17, 2012 by mikey

Dr. Cranky Posted January 17, 2012 Author Posted January 17, 2012 (edited) Thanks, gents, I appreciate it. Shoot, these types of builds always help ME get out of the slump too. Here are some glamour pics of the latest. I also want to thank AMT for the 76 PACER kit, it really took me back to 70s! LOL! Edited January 17, 2012 by Dr. Cranky
ZombieHunter26 Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 Hey B-dub- Where'd you get the awesome kitty-shaped model stand? It looks so realistic Anyhow, I'd assume you're going for a gunship tanker? Or something of that nature....

I got one just like it Rob, check your local paper.. and when your done...he will get rid of all those pesky extra parts too....
Wagoneer81 Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 B-dub.... If you really want to mess with people, put the Walker tracks under the rear of the Mack and use the Mack tandems under the back of the trailer and make the trailer a 4-axle jobby... You gotta think, that turret weighs at least 12 tons... add that to the fuel capacity of the trailer... Sorry, it's my engineering and trucking background coming back to haunt me...
ZombieHunter26 Posted January 17, 2012 Posted January 17, 2012 I got one just like it Rob, check your local paper.. and when your done...he will get rid of all those pesky extra parts too.... LOL. I have one too, but she's more of a "I'm gonna curl up inside your empty model box to keep it warm" type. As for parts cleanup... Let's just say I had to scratchbuild a few of the small bits for the Dodge L700 I'm currently building for my next submission. Silly feline menace... OH. And AWESOME gremkiller Cranky! It gave me a few ideas for the next vehicle after the L700.
Agent G Posted January 18, 2012 Posted January 18, 2012 MrsG wants the kitty model stand. The cab is complete as such. Armored glass vision port. Tape covers the clear plastic as primer is next. I have an extensive collection of panzer parts as well. They come in real handy for this type of build. G
