Ok here are some pics finally. I am far from done, but I wanted to give am up date. The gun on the front of the push bar is a flame thrower, and in the back of the cargo box there will be zombie tracking system and all the fire power you can think of. We are supposed to get 2 foot of snow this weekend, so there wont be any paint applied for a few days. I went out and bought the roscoe cop cruiser especially for the guns and the light bar, you never know the monaco might make a good zombie hunter. Hope ya like it, and maybe ill get more progress photos to ya soon. Jerred

Holy Tanks Hugh, I am building pretty much the same truck, only it has a cargo box. We should start our own monster convoy, you have the liquid and I will take care of dried goods and ammo.

Hey Jerred, I see what you mean. I guess great minds really do think alike! I like that kitchen in there, somebody's got to feed this crew! How did you jack yours up? I had to make new springs for mine.

Cool looking stuff guys.

I did some body work stuff like using super glue to stipple in where I want some surface rust, and I used a Dremel tool to grind out behind the fenders to get the rusted through look. Once it's all dried and cured I plan on denting it up a little bit. Once the body is where I want it, then it will be ready for primer then the rusting and painting.

I also did some flat styrene strips for the windshield area for framing.

Pictures coming soon

Yes Hugh great minds do think alike. In the back will be a zombie tracking system and gun rack with alot of guns and ammo. My plans are to put a ladder in and a gunner station on the top of the cargo boxes. Jerred

A tip - check photos of monster trucks. You will find that the "arrows" in the tyre treads point forward when viewed above. Otherwise, great stuff.

That is to displace the ground to the outside of the tire. For this build, if he is trying to run over zombies on the ground and crush them under the tires, the backwards tread might help keep them under the tires for a better kill. (or not)

Steven, I like the truck, but I have a suggestion about the bed, see if you can take some styrene and scratch build a flat bet, not a pick up truck bed like the one you have. It will make the front of the truck look meaner. That's just an opinion, mind you, I think you are doing a good job with this build.

Mark, thanks for the info on the files. I'm going to get a set, and also for posting pictures of you build. I like it and hope you continue to make progress.

See...that is what I like about simple projects...those oil drums are simple and easy! Thanks for that link, Doc. Much appreciated! Just gotta remember the poly pipe when I go to the home improvement store next time! Already have some telephone wire and sheet styrene!! (Actually, if I go looking I probably have some of that pipe already...)

Tony, I have to write it down to or I will forget. Delighted you enjoyed the how-to. I love cool and simple builds like this.

Any hobby shop should carry sheet, and a variety of rod stock by Evergreen or Plastruct. Or you can Google the websites for either and mail order. Or you could build the bed out of wood and just use popsicle sticks or something. This was done with balsa and basswood.

BlazeFof, you don't necissairly have to buy the expensive kind of sheet styrene. There are all sorts of things you can use for instance, for sale signs, the clear plastic on the front of a toy box, plastic tooth picks for rod styrene, martini straws, and other styles of plastic junk you can find. I use for sale signs the most and have never had a problem.

Hey all I'm gonna be at a Hobby Lobby tomorrow & I need to know what weathering essentials I should pick up while I am there as it is rare for me to get over there. Thanks

Joe, if they have the RUSTALL system, pick it up. I started with that years aga, and I still use it. You also can pick up whatever AK-INTERACTIVE or MIG products they might have, rust pigments, filters, washes, etc . . .

Remember that you can make simple but highly effective washes with oil paints and mineral spirits. Rustall comes with a supply of finely ground dirt and dust that I use to weather my tires.

Good luck and happy shopping.

Jerred, excellent work on your build. I love the shovel up front, the louvers over the windows, and the command center details in the back. You are clearly building a wonderful TZH. Keep up the great work.

John, you hit the ball out of the park with this one. What I love about it is that it looks like a tank at first until you see that engine right in the middle of it and the grill and lights . . . very cool. Nice work.

I think you are right in your assessment, Joe . . . and it reminds me to tell everyone not to worry about copying someone else's idea. I do it all the time, that's how we all learn.

I think the trick to coming up with a very unique vehicle (like all the ones shown here) is to really think about its purpose in the CARAVAN. What is your vehicle going to do? What's it used for?

Once you can answer that question, you will be on your way to adding the details and elements that will make your build unique and stand out.
