Hi guys well i'm thinking of buying a airbrush, i just can't figure if i want a single or dual action,

these are what i am thinking about

Badger 200 @ micheals with discount i can get for 70.00

Badger 150-7 @ 149.99

Badger 155-7 @139.99

Pasche VL @109.99

Pasche Millenium @94.99

I want something simple that will do a great job any suggestions would be appreciated

I love my iwata eclipse.. I have a triple action handle on it so it is both a single and double action in one and can be used to pretty much anything..

The Paasche VL is a good choice, but $109.99? You should be able to find that brush online for about half that. Paasche H is an excellent beginner's choice, too.

Honestly? Any of those will work. All are respectable Choices. Single action is easier but double action is more versatile (and not that hard to learn on). What are you painting? Mostly bodies - single action will do. Details? Double action.

Trying to get it narrowed down to brand is pointless as everybody likes this or that. Really, most ABs will do the job if you learn how to use it properly.

One of our members has a site with a lot of airbrush information that you might find helpful.

He really seems to know his stuff about Badgers, so check out those entries*.

A lot of people are going to tell you to start off with the Paasche "H" because it's a simple single action that'll gt the job done. All of that is true, but I'm going to recommend the Paasche VL. I bought one used from a co-worker years ago and had to teach myself how to use it (no instructions). With the three different head/needle setup, it'll shoot about anything from Kool-Aid to pancake syrup. As an added plus, the additional adjustability of a dual action unit will prove to be a big help in any number of areas.

If you really want to stay in the Badger line, try the Crescendo. It has the same features I like in the VL, but if you have something really big to paint, this is the one you want.

* The reviewer somehow received an incredibly poorly made Paasche VL and didn't seem to like it that much.

As far as where to buy, try pricing the brushes you're interested in here: http://coastairbrush.com/

Don't forget to get a moisture trap for that compressor as water is the bane of all airbrushes and paint jobs.

Not sure if you have picked up Donn Yost's DVD on painting with an airbrush but it will be the best $20 you have spent if you do!

www.oldmansmodels.com is the place to check it out.

You probably know this intuitively, but I can't stress how important it is to keep these things clean. I've heard that if water-based acrylics aren't entirely cleaned out, they harden & become extremely difficult to remove. Get yourself a gallon of hardware store lacquer thinner & learn how to strip down your gun for proper cleaning.

Agreed. I personally have several different airbrushes in my arsenal, in both single and double action. I will attest to both of the Paasche models suggested as being exellent, the Testors Aztecs are very good, too. Now if you want to save some cash and get your feet wet airbrushing, you might consider the Central Pneumatic double action from Harbor Freight. They run about $20. While they are somewhat limited due to only having 1 tip size, they actually do a very nice job. I find myself grabbing it more often than my Paasche V here of late.

the paasche vl has a thumbwheel in front of the trigger , so it can be set to work as single action or double action

thanks guys for all your input , i went with the paasche H to start then i'll see as time goes on if double action is in the running thanks again

i personalty use the cheap double action one you can buy from harbor fright, might sound like ###### but its not that bad out of the box works just as good as some 100$ brushes in my option, i turn down a few pieces to get better results and quickly i find it to just as good as anything for your money, and for 20 bucks, if the paint does something wearied i just buy another and spend a hour modifying it.

See if you have a Hobby Lobby near you, they carry the Pasche and Iawata, sometimes they have 30% of all airbrushes and at leat right now there is an on line coupon for 40% of an 1 item so that prices will be a lot lower than what you listed.
