Guest Sickfish Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 Hope you make it home early then Joe ;-) If you think about it, curbsides aren't so bad, it's less time on the bench & more time on the next build ;-) There's enough PE detail, for the air-vents anyway, to give the kit a realistic look.. For now. I'd be pretty sure that @ least 1 of the Japanese after market companies will bring out a full PE detail set in the near future... Give 'em time ;-) Cheers Cliffo
martinfan5 Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 (edited) Cliff, what color are going to paint yours, now I am very curious and cant wait to see you build yours , have you picked out a set of wheels for yours?, just need some ideas as how its going to look with different wheels on it before I start looking I may just have to suck it up and buy one from overseas, even when it does make it here, the price will not have come any, so I think I may just order a few things to make it worth while with the shipping Edited January 24, 2012 by martinfan5
Rob Hall Posted January 24, 2012 Posted January 24, 2012 I haven't bought it yet...it's over $50 on HLJ....probably will be that much or more at the LHS if they get it....I still haven't built the Gallardo and Murcielago kits I bought several years ago...

Rob, thats what I am thinking that when it does make it here the price is going to be the same, I have a Murielago kit on the way
Guest Sickfish Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 As for colour for the Lambo'.... Hmmmm... Let's just say I've ordered 5-6 HOK colours & 1-2 of them are def' gonna go on the Lambo'... But I'm waiting to get them & see them up close before I decide ;-) Cheers Cliffo :-)
jaydar Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Well Cliff, i picked up the kit last night and only got a glimpse inside because i brought home a ton of work. I am really impressed by the interior detail. Saturday i will get a good chance to look at all the sprues closely. right now i am debating doors open or closed. If open, i think it will only be the passenger side. You have to see that interior. joe.
mikelo Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 I think it looks good enough for me to get one. I really don't want to bring up the tire debate, but having worked in a tire store for a number of years, I had to explain the numbers on tires several times. The number you are refering to, the second number in the size, is the aspect ratio to the width of the tire. It is possible to get wider tires and have the same hieght tire. We had to do this all the time for customers who wanted better handling, but not mess up thier speedometer. There is a formula for it that works better for wide low profile tires, but generally, when you increase the width (the first number, which moves in 10s), you decrease the hieght (the second number, which moves in 5s). The easiest example I can remember we did all the time was moving customers from 155/80r13 tires to 175/70r13s. These tires were exactly the same hieght even though it looks like the second size would be lower profile. Sorry. Like I said, I used to be an old tire guy and tire sizes usually confuse people. Regardless, I think the kit looks good enough for me to get one. My biggest problem is usually tires that are not wide enough. Mike
MPRMPRMPR Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Regardless of what appears in the photos, the specs from the lamboghini factory don't lie. According to lamborghini, the rear tires are lower profile than the fronts. The Porsche 959 was the same way. it was done to keep the all wheel drive from engaging in regular highway conditions. If the front wheels are always turning slower than the rears, then the viscous coupling would not engage until the rear wheels were actually slipping. I suspect a similar arrangement is used by Lamborghini. I think some guys are little confused on how tire sizes work. In my job(s) I've been dealing with tires for about 30 years. The Aventador does not have a taller sidewall on the front tires than it does on rears. The rear tires actually have slightly taller sidewalls than fronts. Here's a quick "tire sizes 101" for those not fimiliar. The Aventadors front tires are 255/35-19. The rears are 335/30-20. For those who don't know how this works the middle number (35mm and 30mm in this case) is the aspect ratio of the tire. That middle number of the size means that the sidewall is that percentage of the tires tread width (255mm and 335mm in this case). So the front tires sidewall height is 30% of the 255mm tread width. The rear sidewalls are 30% of the 335mm width. So that would make the front sidewall height 89.25mm and the rear sidewalls 100.5mm which would make the rear tire sidewall taller. 11.25mm taller. I hope this helps clear some things up. That would make the kit tires incorrect. But I'd still buy that kit.
martinfan5 Posted January 25, 2012 Posted January 25, 2012 Cliff or Joe, so the doors dont open and close?, do you have to chose if you want them opened or closed ?
Tonioseven Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 (edited) I will get this kit. I will build it. I will paint it in a color that I'm positive no one else wil choose. I will enjoy the build. I MIGHT even use the kit wheels...Thank you all for sharing this information. Edited January 26, 2012 by Tonioseven
Guest Sickfish Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Martin... Mate I'm not 100% sure but you can have it opened or closed but not sure if they're openable/closable, as I'm unable to read the instructions ( Japanese ) Sorry mate. Guess I'll find out when I get around to building it? Tonio... Go for it mate! Cheers Cliffo :-)
Rob Hall Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 (edited) I thought I read somewhere they could be positioned open or closed but are not hinged. Has any kit ever had working Lambo scissors doors? The Revell/Monogram (Countach, DIablo), Tamiya (Countach) and Fujimi (Murcielago) Lambos I have all have non-opening doors IIRC... The Revell/Monogram (Countach, DIablo), Tamiya (Countach) and Fujimi (Murcielago) Lambos I have all have non-opening doors IIRC... The Fujimi enthusiast model Countach, and Aoshima Countach both have hinged doors, as does the Fujimi Diablo, and the 1/16 Fujimi Countach, as well as the 1/12 Doyusha Countach
Matt Bacon Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Just in case anyone wants to order some of that funky pearlescent red-orange from Hiroboy, this is the spec: Car Manufacture - Lamborghini Colour Code - 0117 Colour Name - Arancio Argos (mica) Model - Aventador Year of Manufacture - 2011 bestest, M.
Guest Sickfish Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Martin, I've had a better look, doesn't appear like the doors are poseable & closeable... You can have them open or closed permanently only :-( Cheers Cliffo
jaydar Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 Cliff or Joe, so the doors dont open and close?, do you have to chose if you want them opened or closed ? Hobby search has it for $53.86 (US price) Hobby link japan has it for $ 51.20(US price), but backed ordered Correct they do not work. there is an optional piece b18(b19) that holds the door open. if you do not use it the door is closed. joe.

Man, you are the best. thanks, joe.
Guest Sickfish Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 (edited) Is Hiroboy a US based supply store, because if it isn't, then I don't think you can get the paint, not since 9/11 anyway. But you can go to your local auto paint supply store & give 'em the colour code for the Aventador & they should be able to mix some up for ya?? Cheers Cliffo. Edited January 27, 2012 by Sickfish
martinfan5 Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 Hirohobby is a UK store, I think you can get the paint sent to the US
Guest Sickfish Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I dunno Martin?? Don't think flammable liquids can be sent via post, for personal ( small amounts), think the only way it get's sent is via a wholesaler?? But like I said, if you can't get it via Hiroboy, then try your local auto paint supplier. Cheers Cliffo.
Matt Bacon Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 hiroboy will ship paint to the US... the only country that doesn't accept paints or solvents is Brazil. He won't ship rattle cans, but the Zero Paints line comes in glass jars, ready to spray by airbrush. In my experience, they come very well packed, so the chances of shipping damage are very small. bestest, M.
jaydar Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 http://www.hiroboy.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=46&products_id=987 They do not show it in the Lamborghini section yet. But this is where all the Lambo colors are. joe.
Peter Lombardo Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I have one in shipping from HLJ right now...and I can tell you that it has opening and closing doors.....I will hinge them for sure. I will not let the manufacturers short coming stop those doors from working.
