I need to find a 1966 body style Harvester Scout. The only models I can find are the Scout II version. Is there a resin body of the year I need? If so, who makes it?

Darn... I kinda thought that might be the answer. Is it in any way possible to convert a Scout II. Or would it be easier to scratch build one. I can do small scratch building, but I don't know about a whole body. Any Ideas?

Don't know much about Internationals, Mr. Chuck Most is the resident expert ;)

The Scout II would probably be the best basis for a master, even though it's not a great kit, the basic shapes are close...

These 800s can be really COOOOL

Add that body style to the list of "I wish that was available" for me! I remember an old neighbor had one of those Scouts and we would help him fix it and plow snow in the winter with him to make a couple extra bucks.

Cargostar might be able to shed some light on this vehicle as he is a IH guru. He has been working on a Travelall and pickup so hopefully this could be in the works too!

W/b in the day , a Promo 1/25 scale was available at IH Dealers . It was cast in heavy metal , in a medium metallic blue . Also made in the Good "Ol US of A , made to stand up to many hours of play . The grille was a decal and decal on the door of International Harvester . The wheels /tires were hoakie . The axle slid through holes in posts , wheels slapped on and the ends (this is my best descripton) were rivited . Better to start from scratch . The wheels were common with the Scout II in the 1:1 world . Gone was the anemic I-4 . A totally better vehicle . Why did the : 1st. gen vans not get modeled ? The Dodge A 100 , a conversion (Thanx Jimmy) but no Chevy Van let along the Corvan ?? How about the Econoline ? The first Broncos . I guess we all drove Minibusses in the '60's and '70's . Thanx ..

Yeah, hopefully mine won't end up on the back burner like yours, Chuck. The one I'm going to be working on will be far from stock, so at least it wont have to be perfect, that way I won't get overwhelmed as easily. It's going to be a replica of my friend's Scout.

I used to own a 1:1 '63 Scout 4x4 with a 70hp engine. Had a lot of good times in that car. Soooo Sloooow though! My least favorite thing was the vacuum winshield wipers

Oh . I did forget about this detail . In '79 I owned a '64 . It did not have a rear window (frame missing too) . Some other problems but a great heater . I do want to make a model of it . Soft spot in my head ..heart ??? Thanx ..

 Hi I doent know if this helps you but take a look at (Time Machine Resin) I have gotten 12 or 14 kits from him he has a great product and he is a very nice guy to deal with.He has a 76 short bed open SSII scout for $40.00 and you use the new AMT kit for the doner. You will still have to do some body work but it may get you a bit closer to what your looking for good luck Rick.

No, that's still a Scout II. Other than cutting off the roof, it would be just as much work to convert that into a first-gen Scout as the Ertl kit. I do have that transkit though, and it is nice. B)

To be accurate, it would be easier to start from scratch. The 1st gen body is narrower, and the front and rear overhans differ greatly. The interior is also completely different. The only thing that is shared between the 1st gen., and the Scout II is the wheel base. There were several diecast Scouts produced, non of which were very accurate.

The 4 cylinder engine was available in the Scout II's thru 1980 although it was a 196 ci, in place of the 152 ci in the earlier Scouts.

I have started on several occasions to master a 1st gen body, but, I hate working on them at work, so, its very hard to get enthused about building a model of one!
