Fabrux Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 My good buddy Steve Milberry suggested I post this to show it to you folk. I built this back in 2008, which considering my modelling skill development is pretty early on. It still holds up well, I think, but there are a few things I'd change if I was building this now. As it is, the body work was too extensive for me to strip it down and re-do so it'll stay as is. The underhood detail isn't the best. The engine is a 428 from a '69 Shelby GT500. I started with a '60 Cougar Eliminator and grafted the roof from the Shelby. And yes, I did build the Shelby as a notchback. The Cougar was a side project and turned out much better than the Shelby...! I find that the body line from the Cougar fits better with a fastback roof, myself. I think I might end up redoing the Shelby; I can post that one too if y'all like.
AZ Boy Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 I wouldn't touch it Chris. Looks great just like that.
Haubenschild Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Great job! , where did the wheels come from?
Chuck Most Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Love the look... Mercury should have produced this!
MyBradKeselowski Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Looks great, good looking conversion ! ! !
DumpyDan Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Nice idea, looks really good. I did the opposite, I turned a Stange into a notch back from a couger, you have done one nice and clean.
Fabrux Posted February 8, 2012 Author Posted February 8, 2012 The wheels are Pegasus #1277 Chrome Hellas. I also did the opposite... That one didn't turn out as great. I honestly think it has about 95% to do with the colour... blah.
Modlbldr Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 Great double swaps. I agree that the Cougar looks much better. Sure wish I'd have thought of this before I got rid of my Cougar. Later-
ShawnS Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 A real good looker. A nice build too. Well done Chris.
RustedBronco Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 Looks great! Planning the same conversion, hope it will turn out as nice as yours.
Kris Morgan Posted February 9, 2012 Posted February 9, 2012 I think they both came out nice. I really, really like the lines o the Cougar. Nice job.
Darin Bastedo Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Very cool. Looks great, and the design is well done. It looks like it could be factory.
george 53 Posted February 10, 2012 Posted February 10, 2012 Oh they're not thru yet!!! This is a GREAT conversion idea. They were the same car under the skin,so why not? Merc left THIS GREAT idea in the dust, what a shame! I even like the Shelby coupe!!! Might hafta build me onetoo!!! Thanks for sharein such cool ideas and cars!!!
Guest Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 That's really cool! Mercury really missed the boat on that design! Kudos. I'd like to see your other conversion.
promo55 Posted February 11, 2012 Posted February 11, 2012 I agree with Chuck Most, Mercury should have built this car! Very good, innovative idea that you had. Great work! And, what color could it be but Competition Orange?
Fabrux Posted February 11, 2012 Author Posted February 11, 2012 Its actually a no-name red from a local department store, I think. Can't remember what paint I used, TBH.
Eshaver Posted February 12, 2012 Posted February 12, 2012 Dis is the Mercury Cougar XR-7 dey shouldda built ! Ed Shaver
