BKcustoms Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I built this back in December as a Christmas gift for my Dad. His first car was a 69 Nova and I did my best to replicate it. I started with a Revell 69 Nova SS and converted it into a non SS six cylinder car by using the motor out of an AMT 51 Chevy convertible updated to look like a 69 unit. the grill has the SS emblem removed and a chevy bow tie put in its place, and the fender vents have been removed. Color is a custom DuPont blue I mixed at work with Nason urethane clear.
Captain Obvious Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 That is beautiful, excellent work...I'm sure Dad loves it!
MyBradKeselowski Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Nicely done ! ! ! It's nice to see once in awhile a grocery getter Nova instead of strictly sleeper Nova's...
Haubenschild Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Excellent job! , where did you get the exhaust system from?
BKcustoms Posted February 13, 2012 Author Posted February 13, 2012 thanks guys! the front of the exhaust is from the kit and portion behind the muffler was scratchbuilt out of brass tubing.
roadhawg Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Very nice!!! I, too, owned a 6-banger Nova, and did a conversion awhile back to model it. I used a Trumpeter 6, but that '51 Chevy 6 looks pretty good in there. Great job!
BKcustoms Posted February 13, 2012 Author Posted February 13, 2012 (edited) @ Monty it was a Duplicolor spray can I think it was called Bahama Blue. Edited February 13, 2012 by BKcustoms
DumpyDan Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Nice! This looks great, the motor looks good to, you have done a nice job.
rmvw guy Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 The color looks close to the original color to me. I had one new in 69 with a 350 and bench seat the same color. I like your conversion to 6 cylinder. Nice Job!
Flatearthman Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 nice work it's good to see an inline 6 for a change
promo55 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 I like all kinds of Novas. I really like this model because you do not see any 6 cylinder scale models of them. The models all seem to be COPO, Yenkos, or SS models, which I also like, but this is a different slant on a great model! Very good job!
montelsc Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Nice and stock and with a straight six awesome!!
hotrod59f100 Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 Looks nice. Wish they had a 73 nova . My dad had one.
Austin T Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 These are the funniest builds to do,I built a Ford Ranger pickup for my neighbor across the street from me that looked just like his.I gave it to him for Christmas and he loves it.
charlie8575 Posted February 19, 2012 Posted February 19, 2012 I like. Mainstreamers rule. Charlie Larkin
BKcustoms Posted February 20, 2012 Author Posted February 20, 2012 Thanks Charlie, It's nice to build something that would be more commonly seen than an SS or a Yenko
Lunajammer Posted February 20, 2012 Posted February 20, 2012 Yeah, great work. There's a lot to be said for factory stock. Nice, clean, attractive conversion.
