Lunajammer Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I'd like to see the off-the-wall knickknacks that used to come with kits. Telephones, reel-to-reel tape machines, TVs, box radios come to mind but I know there are many more. Custom made bits would be interesting too, but mostly the kit supplied oddballs. Prefer not body parts like skirts, pans, continentals unless it's something too weird to pass up.
Harry P. Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I don't remember the exact kit... an old Buick. The one that's just been re-released. It came with a small elephant. Really!
Dr. Cranky Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Mike, this is a wonderful thread idea. I usually put all the stuff aside as I find it in the different kits. Engine stand, Michelin men, all kinds of other trinkets which I normally end up using when I build dioramas . . . AMT surely had a knack for including lots of that fluff in their kits. I've always loved the extras goodies. It made opening those kits feel like you were opening the treat in a Cracker Jacks box.
The70judgeman Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Oh yeah...I'll have to dig them up, but I know I have a 35mm camera, and a clunky car phone or two. Bet there's a few more treasures around here in a box. I'll see what else and post a pic.
Nate Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 (edited) The old AMT 57 Chevy that was last re-issued (that I'm aware of anyway) as the Boyd Coddington version came with a decent engine display stand, a baby alligator, and a trophy, If I'm not mistaken. Didn't the Revell 49 Merc have trophy, too? Edited February 24, 2012 by Nate
Jantrix Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Didn't the Revell 49 Merc have trophy, too? Yep and decals to make the uprights look realistic too.
Harry P. Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Wasn't that in the Riviera for the top of a trophy? It's the AMT Buick Electra 225...
Dr. Cranky Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 LOL, Harry, I have that kit somewhere on the shelves and I remember that elephant. Those are the extra "treats" that eventually end up being used in a diorama somewhere.
slantasaurus Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 I don't have pics but the reciently reissued Revell/Monogram 40 Ford Pick Up has a nice set of tools, wrenches, pliers, screwdriver, and 4way lug wrench.
Harry P. Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Didn't the "Touch Tone Terror" (disguised Little Red Wagon kit) come with a phone booth?
Harry P. Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 The R-M "Pro Modeler" '58 Corvette has a set of luggage on the decal sheet.
gray07 Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 The 57 ford came with a dog for the shelf in the back window

Mercman Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 Didn't the "Touch Tone Terror" (disguised Little Red Wagon kit) come with a phone booth? Yes id did, also a utility rack to make a stock Telephone service truck. The LRW also had a engine crate. The Amt 49 Merc had a chrome crank also along with tools. There were all sorts of animals included in the older kits. Also tapedecks tv's, helmets, tools, surfboards, water toys like ski's, scuba tanks, fins, all sorts of trophies. The Outlaw by Revel had the biggest trophy I remember, having 3-4 tiers, with all sorts of little ornaments. Also the gangster series from MPC had guns of all sorts.
Dr. Cranky Posted February 24, 2012 Posted February 24, 2012 These are all wonderful. Very nice scenes, Ed. Thank you for sharing the eye candy, everyone.
Lunajammer Posted February 25, 2012 Author Posted February 25, 2012 These came from parts I've inherited so the experts could elaborate on what kits. Did someone mention the baby alligator? Pretty sure this particular sample didn't come from the Coddington series. The AMT brand tube radio. Must stand for Amplitude Modulation Technology. The White House party crashers from the Revell '57 Cadillac Eldorado. The first aid kit, which apparently was recovered from a plane crash.
Joker Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 The old AMT 57 Chevy that was last re-issued (that I'm aware of anyway) as the Boyd Coddington version came with a decent engine display stand, a baby alligator, and a trophy, If I'm not mistaken. Austin T Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 If someone wanted to scratch build a car trophy wouldn't those little toy car from the 80's be perfect,I think the were "Micro Machines".

gray07 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 The Coors truck (i think it was a ford courier) had a cooler you put in the bed and it had clear ice with it.
1zebra3 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 How about the kegs of BEER in the Coors Courier? YUM YUM gota get me some.
LDO Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 Hasegawa's "special bomb" verion of the A-1H Skyraider. Look at the ordnance on the far left. It's a commode. Yes, a Skyraider pilot did drop a commode over Vietnam, and you can build a model of that plane.
hotrod59f100 Posted February 25, 2012 Posted February 25, 2012 I turned the alligator into ..Spot Munster Jr..added wings and backbone spikes and a collar Mini bikes are bonus in baja beast and a mudder truck and here are some "modified" trophies James aka Joker hey James what kit did the ford pickup come from?
