Danger Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Good day, I am heading to Sedona for a family vacation in a few weeks and would like to model shop while in the area. Flying into Phoenix, spending most of the time in Sedona and 1 day in Eloy. Are there any decent hobby shops in the area? Looking for car models and paints. Thanks Danger

Chillyb1 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Here's one I found when I visited a couple of years ago: http://www.thehobbydepot.com/. Highly recommended. They extended to me an out-of-towner discount just to be nice. Excellent, extensive selection and good (not great) prices. And one kindly patron even drove me back to my motel when I mentioned that I'd walked there and thought I was going to die because of the unbearable heat! How do those people stand it?
Danno Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Hobby Depot is as good as it gets in the Valley; good stock, good people, and they treat car modelers well. Lots of car/truck models and supplies, lot of military, and some trains. They are very supportive of the Desert Scale Classic contest/show (major sponsorship), the local IPMS chapter's annual contest, and our local clubs. Andy's is good, too, but he doesn't get involved in our local contests shows or clubs. There are a couple of franchised Hobbytown USA shops that are very typical of HTU. And, there's a local 2-store chain, Hobby Bench, that is okay, operates similarly to HTU, and like HTU tends to be more R/C oriented, but with trains. Check the local scene (and links, etc.) by going to www.Moonlightmodelers.com and drop in on the local bulletin board (check the Moonlightmodelers links page).
martinfan5 Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Now that Hobby Depot is under new owners I may have give them a try again. Thats all I have to offer to this post, Danno gave good info, cant top what he said And one of these days I will check out Andys hobby store too
Steve Keck Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Hobby Depot is as good as it gets in the Valley Danno said it all right there. No need to go any where else. And it's only 5-10 minutes east of the airport. The address is 216 West Southern on the NW corner of Mill & Southern

moparmagiclives Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 (edited) Man, I havent thought about this place for a wile. When I lived there going to school in 98-99, I lived on 19th and Northern. There was a small hobby shop that was mostly lowrider/ tuner parts, not far from there. The guy from Anzalinies ( Angelienes ?) sub shop would come in with his stuff and blow everyones off the counter...pretty cool stuff. There was a chain store right across from my apartment on Northern, Hobby town (?) I think, bretty basic stuff....but 10 year ago wont help you much now.. thanks for the strole down memory lane anyway. I wonder if that sub shop is still there ??? HUGE subs and pizzas !!! Rob Hall Posted February 28, 2012 Posted February 28, 2012 Hobby Depot is my favorite (10 min from my office). I also like Hobby Bench at 19th ave and Northern also. I've been to Andy's a couple times, but I don't get out to the westside very often.
Modelbuilder Mark Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 Huge fan of the Hobby Depot myself. They have been great to me every time I have been in there. You can get on their email list, they will also call you when ModelCars mag is in to let you know it is there etc. They had a free workshop last week for diorama/display making, and it was free, had a great time, and have a new display base, plus several great tips to take into building world.
