maxwell48098 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 i built this in 1980 using 1978 issued AMT kit 5001 GMC General Conventional with scratch built Holmes wrecker body using plans from early '70's Car Model magazine. Color is Krylon white and cherry red.
Jim B Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Loks really nice. There's a General wrecker here in the Syracuse area that looks a lot like that.
ChrisR Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Nice model. Wouldn't mind getting hold of a copy of the plans for the wrecker body.
Jim B Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Nice model. Wouldn't mind getting hold of a copy of the plans for the wrecker body. Here you go: http://public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thscale/model_magazine_articles/car_model/cm-1972-03/
Turbo590 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 Nice! Looks cool with the short wheelbase. Jim The short wheel base sets it apart from any other(s) Nice fit and finish.....cool tow truck Kurt
ARTEMIS1759 Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 (edited) Hey that looks good. You wouldn't have any articles for something like a Holmes 460 or 525 wrecker body would ya? Similar to this for a single axle 1 to 1.5T truck. Or a modification on Crazy Cooters wrecker body? http://www.powerwago.../B1wrecker.html Edited March 15, 2012 by ARTEMIS1759
Ben Posted March 15, 2012 Posted March 15, 2012 That's cool! Looks like it's right out of the seventies!
The Modeling Hermit Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 That's a fantastic build, and I like the short wheelbase too.

Truck parts Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 A.J. Love the old school look. Also nice colors you picked out.
truckabilly Posted March 19, 2012 Posted March 19, 2012 That is a very nice wrecker. I like the colors too. Is the winch scratch built or the one from KFS? Jarda
maxwell48098 Posted March 19, 2012 Author Posted March 19, 2012 Jarda - This one was built long before the first KFS kit. I used the plans from the March and April 1973 issues of Car Model magazine. Here is the link: http://public.fotki....del/cm-1972-03/ Thanks to everyone for the nice comments, A.J.
Superpeterbilt Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 I just found this, and Wow! What a build. This thing is cool! It reminds me of many of the old Holmes wreckers running around in years past. Great job!
