Darin Bastedo Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I'm building a custom speedster version. I chopped the top 2.5 scale inches and am using part of the engine cover window from a Ferrari F-50. The wheels are five spokes but I plan to use 427 Cobra style Halibrands on the final version. I haven't completely decided on the paint scheme but I'm leaning toward a Corvette style Grand Sport design. (The 60's version)
Steven Zimmerman Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 WOW!...this is one of those'Now, WHY didn't I think of that !...ATTABOY, keep us posted....'Z'
Danno Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 Yeppers. Sweet. Great concept. Zora woulda been proud of this one ... except for that idea of Cobra wheels. Blasphemy!
Scale-Master Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 I wondered how an AeroVette would look like this, (to go with the Corvette Indy I did in a similar fashion). Thanks for showing me what it looks like outside my imagination, and without having to do anything. I like it so far...
elan Posted March 16, 2012 Posted March 16, 2012 As I remember, Halibrands were also used on some Corvette racers from the '60's. Good start anyway!
robertw Posted March 22, 2012 Posted March 22, 2012 Darin, This is a project that I'll be watching closely. The Aerovette was a sharp concept car but not one that lent itself to customizing. I can see already that you're going to be giving a new life to this kit. rob
DustyMojave Posted March 28, 2012 Posted March 28, 2012 Yeah, Halibrand wheels were used on LOTS of race cars, including the GS Vettes. That "Cobra" pattern of Halibrand wheels got used on Eisert Formula A road race open wheel cars, Lola-Chevy Can Am cars, Ford GT40s, lots of Sprint cars, a number of Indy cars, etc.
