I saw a lot of prices on eBay that were rediculous, but I've been following this eBay listing: http://www.ebay.nl/i...E:B:WNA:NL:1123 and with 5 hours to go, the price is around 140 dollars now. With a broken A-pillar.

The reason why I looked it up, is because I might want to sell my 1/12 kit, in order to get the newer 1/12 Mustang. But I seriously don't see why it would be worth that much.

Wow that is crazy, i agree with you thats a lot of coin, is it a rare or hard to find kit? What about seeing on the forum if some one would trade that kit for the 2010 mustang 1/12th scale?

It's pretty much the only version of that kit made, so unless you want to get one of the earlier Revell '65 GTs or an original Renwal version, you have to pay up.

Maybe it's the location, too? If it's already in Europe, so shipping would cost much less than if it were in North America.

Could be that some people have been really wanting this one, so the price is driven up.

Could also be that the seller has a buddy or two making fake bids, to drive up the price. If they can hook a buyer, they can sell for an inflated price.

Even though it is uncommon and hasn't been around for a while, why would it boost so much? I mean, the kit is mediocre, it is somewhat detailled, but crued.

Personally I wouldn't pay more than 35-50 bucks for this kit and that is what I kind off expected from this listing, even more because of that broken pillar.

@Casey; the car is in NY, so in the States. I don't think they go for that high over here in Europe. And I have a different version:

I know, but for some reasons. Some kits are more wanted than others. So why this kit in particular? A 1/8 Monogram Deuce or Corvette goes for a lot less.

well i would say that it could be because its one of the cooler mustangs from back in the day, and not being re-released sense then and being a shelby helps as well, i do have to admit that when the rumors came out before they released the 2010 mustang in 1/12th was kinda disappointed that it wasnt the older issues from the sixties, as i love the old muscle car iron over modern thin tin. Oops, sorry, the eBay Europe page fooled me.

Have you done a "Completed Items" search to see what other similar kits have recently sold for?

I haven't done that, so I just did. I found the Gt350 for 76,00, but partially built/painted. And the normal Mustang (yellow) was around 100 dollars.

So people are willing to pay more for it than I thought, but I still don't think it is worth it hahaha.

@Darren; I was quite happy with the new mustang to be released. It was about time there were new big scale kits, let's hope more will follow.

It's not worth that much . I've seen it sell for $55.00 in the past . And the yellow Mustang about the same . If you are not in a hurry , just "save" a search for what you are looking for and check back every few days . Sooner or later you will find one at a decent price . It's the " I gotta have that ! " people you drive the price up .

On eBay it only takes two bidders that really want a kit to drive up the price. Keep watching for others.

I saw a 1/12 Camaro sell for up past $120 and that kit can be had for $50 to $70 regularly.

One of the 1/12 Mustang just sold on the 22nd for $76.

I agree that Ebay prices are based entirely on what people will pay. I had that same kit from new in the 1980s, and I left it alone because the body was so poorly designed; after 30 years I was all of a sudden seeing it as a 'MIB' kit.

Mine sold on Ebay to a Shelby collector in FL for just shy of $120.

I've found some in the states cheaper than that. I've been looking for some large scale kits and I don't want to pay a high price for them.

Hawk did a great job with the body and paint on this kit, and he will tell you it took a lot of work. It's not a "bad" kit, even with it's poor fitting body panels. But I certainly wouoldn't call it a really good kit, either. Kind of typical of stuff that started out in the mid 1960's and has been reissued with some changes. The engine accessories are nice, the tires are nice, and there's just nothing else in 1/12 of this VERY popular car.

This one looks pretty rough, but the broken A pillar is common in all these large box kits that had no center support. It can be fixed. I have 3 of these kits and I would trade one of them to someone who could make a racing style front bumper for the others.
