jjsipes Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I have just recieved a resin 1986 Pontiac 2+2 Stock car body and decals for a richard Petty stock car. I am looking for some reference pics of the area within the rear glass. Need to know if it would be a package shelf that was painted black or blue to match chassis or just how they closed the truck off from the interior. Anybody have any idea or pictures of this area? Here is a pic of the car I am looking at replicating.
ffreak Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I have found this link with the front dash and rear deck in blue. But i've seen others in black also . I have planned on doing mine in black myself. http://volocars.com/1986-pontiac-2+2-aerocoupe-nascar-c-1834.htm
Roadkill2525 Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I don't see why either would be wrong, may have been different for whatever track.
ffreak Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 I don't see why either would be wrong, may have been different for whatever track. The top of the dash has been black for as long as I can remember. This was done for glare purposes. I have only seen just a few rear decks that were anything other black. But as Michael just mentioned, this could have varied a lot depending on tracks and such. The cars are always apples and oranges anyway from week to week, subtle things will change.
bbowser Posted March 29, 2012 Posted March 29, 2012 (edited) I found this from a Google image search. The back deck appears to be blue (hard to tell). I've seen pics of the dash blue or black. Since it's at Milwaukee it could be a show car or a replica? Or maybe they were testing? Edited March 29, 2012 by bbowser
roadhawg Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 Paging Futurabat.......if anybody would know about those colors, it would be him. As far as the trunk enclosure, my suggestion is to use a 86-87 Monogram Nascar Monte Carlo for your doner....they were all the same, except for the body.
zot Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_p7ZuoIDvM Check this video. One of the 2+2s is right behind the host at the beginning. It certainly appears to be black to me.
dh85ss Posted March 30, 2012 Posted March 30, 2012 I could not tell if it was black , the spoiler was black and so was trim around the black glass. i remember this tv show wonder if it is on in reruns anywhere
jjsipes Posted March 31, 2012 Author Posted March 31, 2012 Thanks guys. I was thinking black due to sun glare but wasn't sure. I know that dash will be black and the chassis and cage will be Petty Blue. I assume the suspension will be the darker blue, engineering blue?
Joe Oteri Posted April 1, 2012 Posted April 1, 2012 (edited) You unimformed nascar experts are dangerious..... That photo from Milwaukee is only a few years old, and is CLEARLY A SHOW CAR. They never had Pontiac across the windshield either..... = showcar! Look at the walls....bright white, clean, modern Milwaukee font/logo too! If that photo was REALLY from 1986/87..... you think it would be that clear and colorful?? Not a nice digital photo.. Look at the driver....white full face helmet.....Richard always wore one painted in STP colors!! And those tire's are just new tires with repainted white letters!!! Edited April 1, 2012 by Joe Oteri
Joe Oteri Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 (edited) Sorry boys, just calling it like I see it. I've seen numerous nascar threads on this board.... and just shake my head with the misinformation thats given out. People who have no business talking about nascar in general. I'm not just singling you two out...just saying it in general. I don't come on this board and post about rat rods and 69 mustangs... don't know much about either. Oh and peed in my Cheerio's? We're trying to keep this thread professional Andy; not turn it into some crazy german fetish.... Edited April 3, 2012 by Joe Oteri
Rob Hall Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 (edited) No need to get riled Joe. There are nicer ways to educate people that doesn't involve caps and exclamation marks. His post sounds like something the Comic Book Guy on the Simpsons would rant about..rivet counting know-it-alls that are full of themselves. Edited April 2, 2012 by Rob Hall
Joe Oteri Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 It's got nothing to do with rivet counting or being a know-it-all Rob... Just trying to inform the town's people here who could use a little help.
The70judgeman Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Are you happy now Joe? I took the liberty of removing my oh so offensive and "uninformed" posts for you. Now you can live in peace and remain the master of evrything NASCAR related. By the way, I still haven't found your "Everything you should know about NASCAR and you need to ask me first before you post" thread. And you thought I may have been offensive and unprofessional in your eyes? Way to bring in a race/nationality card into the mix. Being part German...now I'm offended. Would expect better from someone claiming to be professional. Also to Jacen and Robert...my comments were not meant to be condescending and "everyone should know this" either. Apparently Joe is the know-it-all. Misunderstanding on your part.

Misunderstanding on your part. I didn't say anything about your comments..it was Joe I was talking about.
The70judgeman Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 My apologies to Jacen and Rob. I misunderstood where your comments were directed. As far as I'm concerned...to me, this matter is done and I'm done commenting on this thread.
bbowser Posted April 2, 2012 Posted April 2, 2012 Wow. All I did was a google search for images and posted what I found with no claim of "expertise". Please forgive me for speaking of the hallowed NASCAR.
jjsipes Posted April 2, 2012 Author Posted April 2, 2012 (edited) Yeah all I did was ask a questions because my search really didn't come up with anything and this is what I get. Thank you for thise you commented with helpful information. Edited April 2, 2012 by jjsipes

roadhawg Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 Oh calm down Andy, there's no need to be so dramatic. I'll just go back to lurking....sorry for being so truthful and honest boys! Joe, I for one appreciate anyone willing to share knowledge or accurate information, but when you start off by saying "You uninformed nascar experts are dangerous.....", you're not going to make any friends. I've been around racing for 40+ years, but I've learned all kind of things I never knew from people just like you, or Jacen, or lots of others on forums like this. It's nice to learn from anyone that knows something I don't. If you see anything that needs correcting, by all means do so....just try to be a little more "tactful", lol. Instead of "You uninformed nascar experts are dangerous...", how about "I think I might be able to shed some light on this subject..."??? Don't just "lurk" when you can make a difference.
bbowser Posted April 3, 2012 Posted April 3, 2012 I totally agree with Tommy. I "lurk" quite a bit over at Randy's site, even posted a few things, and it is great-a wealth of info. We need more stock car guys on here, the more the better. We're all looking to sharpen our skills and marvel at other's work. Hang around Joe, we're not really that dangerous!
