I have in displays...grouped similar subjects together...'60s AMT Fords, Tamiya F1 cars, etc. When I boxed up a lot of kits w/ my last two moves I organized the packing boxes by brand, year, make, model (i.e. AMT '68 Ford annuals together, etc). I keep my spreadsheet organized by brand, year, make, model as well...

I have tended to group scale together, but sometimes I like to group the same or similar car of different scales together...like a 1:43rd Lotus next to a 1:20th. Would be fun to do that w/ Revell '69 Camaros also...

I need to organize my unbuilt kits badly, but ones on display I just try and alternate colors. Light-dark-light , and also i try not to put two pickups next to each other, like the xtreme and the ranger for example.

make and yr.

Fords on one wall

Dodge on another wall.

Etc...

I do this, except for older kit's like Johan. I sort those by manufacturer, then make, year.

Does anyone organize their models...

Sure, where ever the wife can't find that latest buy!

It is on my list of things to do this coming week as I have a few days off and want to organize them so I can begin to "thin them out". No sense in having 14 Revell 69 Camaros!

WWHHAATT ??? do not speak this blaspheme (and make me look bad) :D

I am with you guys that say "where they will fit", by size of the box, which preety much keeps the different kit brands together.

The only exception is the kits that have some potential of being finished in the next 5 years are kept to the front of the archives (closet)...

FORDS ON ONE SHELF, MOPARS, ON ANOTHER, TOM DANIELS KITS GROUPED TOGETHER,CHEVYS IN THE SPARE BATHROOM, ALL JOHAN TOGETHER ON ONE SHELF. EMPTY BOXES AND DUPLICATES GO IN THE GARAGE ATTIC. ALL LARGE SCALE TOGETHER1/8,1/12 ETC. ALL TRUCKS ARE TOGETHER WITH ALL MAKES. UNDER THE WORK BENCH GOES KITS THAT ARE DONORS FOR RESIN BODIES. ALL RESIN BODIES ARE BOXED IN PROMO BOXES READY FOR PAINT AND ASSEMBLY IN THE CABINETS ABOVE THE WORK BENCH.. TRYING NOW TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO USE THE SPACE ABOVE AND INSIDE THE FLOOR JOISTS.!

I organize them primarily by manufacturer, with a couple of exceptions. I have a shelf for race cars (ie non-street), one for monster trucks and one for big rigs.

I Orgainize all my kit's by model comp.

All amt kit's

All revell kit's

All monogram kit's

All revell/monogram kit's

All lindberg kit's

All mpc kit's

year and make don't matter to me. The only thing is I am running out of room to put them all.

All my unbuilt kits are in year order, except for the odd size boxes (like the Galaxie kits & Revell 49 Merc, etc.)

My built kits are also in glass display cabinets in year order.

At one time, AKA when I had the room, I had them displayed as a kind of timeline... right now, I'm just lucky to have them out on display...
