sports850 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 This is my build inspired by this competition , http://www.modelcars...showtopic=55712 , if I get it finished in time I'll add it over there , if not then I'll just do it for myself Mini Ha-Ha was a '70's mini creation by Matchbox (they also did a flying VW Beetle for opposition) , it was availible in a box or blister pack as shown here (these are both mine) , I was originally thinking of printing an A4 backing card for it but can't figure out how to make the plastic blister easily so might go with scanning and enlarging the box and going that way Anyway , my version will be based on a spare Tamiya mini body I had sitting around and an InfiniT I had built but got bored with , it'll be donating wheels , front and rear ends and bits and pieces , and a resin engine like this one , just waiting on details from the supplier to see what scale resin engine will look the best ...
Roadkill2525 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 I think on something that size your best bet would be 1/32
Mr.Zombie Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Whata' cool Idea! Try the 1:25 Corsair from Revell for the Engine, it is bloody cheap on ebay.
1272148 Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 (edited) I am also part of this contest and am thinking of posting multiple builds to the contest. But right now I am working on a li'l gypsy wagon kit, I plan on super detailing it and weathering it Edited April 5, 2012 by 1272148

Great Start Ian!!! Don't forget to post some progress photos in the CAR-TOONS Contest Rules & Previews Section! http://coffincorner.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=2007&action=display&thread=16869&page=1 I think there are about 20 pages of CAR-TOONS Previews already! Looking forward to seeing more Progress on this one...
Deathgoblin Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 This is an excellent project! I had one of these when I was a kid, so I can't wait to see how it turns out.
hotrod59f100 Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 This is an excellent project! I had one of these when I was a kid, so I can't wait to see how it turns out. Me to. that is a vary cool . I never knew what they looked like new.
sports850 Posted April 9, 2012 Author Posted April 9, 2012 Well I've hit a snag with the engine I wanted only being availible in 1:72 from the guy I was talking to , that makes it about 15mm wide , I need it about 45mm wide . Does anyone know of any kit that came with a suitable engine that ssize (perhaps 1:32 or bigger ???) ?
Roadkill2525 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Closest would be the BMW 132 from the 1:32 Revell Arado Ar 196 A-3 floatplane.
Zarana-X Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I've got two of those, as well as both versions of the Flying Beetle. Was this ever repainted?
Mr.Zombie Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 I need it about 45mm wide . Does anyone know of any kit that came with a suitable engine that ssize (perhaps 1:32 or bigger ???) ? YES! Again, but this time with a link: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=1+32+f4u+corsair There, 1:32 and believe me it's giant. Somewhere down the path there is a resin Corsair engine for 17 Bucks. Can't get cheaper than that, and more detailed than Verlinden.
cooltoys1 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 One of my favorite Matchbox when i was a kid!! I love it!!
Roadkill2525 Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 YES! Again, but this time with a link: http://www.ebay.com/...+32+f4u+corsair There, 1:32 and believe me it's giant. Somewhere down the path there is a resin Corsair engine for 17 Bucks. Can't get cheaper than that, and more detailed than Verlinden. The Corsair uses the 18 cylinder Pratt & Whitney R-2800, the Mini Ha-Ha uses a nine cylinder engine like that of the BMW 132. Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp BMW 132
Mr.Zombie Posted April 10, 2012 Posted April 10, 2012 Yea, but more cylinders is always better. And for that build, I'd go for fun anyhow since the engine will be in a "wrong" scale anyhow...
sports850 Posted April 11, 2012 Author Posted April 11, 2012 Thank's everyone , I saw your original post about that kit Adam but was having trouble finding one here . I would prefer a closer replica of what's in the original though Jason , it was only availible in this colour scheme though there were 4 slight variations of colour in the drivers head . I've got a little bit doneon shortening the chassis from the InfiniT , the diff is only sitting under the chassis rails at present , still need to shorten it further and recess the chassis for it to sit lower .
mrspex Posted April 12, 2012 Posted April 12, 2012 How about an old 1/28th Red Baron DR-1 motor? Revell, I think.
Scale-Master Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 How partial to lineage are you? I have a beautiful 1/32 Tamiya Zero radial engine. Talk about a "tuner"...
sports850 Posted April 13, 2012 Author Posted April 13, 2012 It's parentage doesn't bother me so anything that is the right size and looks close will do . Any chance of you getting some measurments of the engine you have Scale-Master please to confirm it is 1:32 that I am looking for ? Maybe it needs a 21st century revamp if it get's a Japanese engine though , turn it into a tuner with a big turbo hanging off each cylinder ...
Chromecop Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 (edited) How about an old 1/28th Red Baron DR-1 motor? Revell, I think. That's what I used for my "Maxi HaHa" when I built it a few years ago: I also built this one, inspired by the flying VW from Matchbox/Lesney Edited April 22, 2012 by Chromecop
kruleworld Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 it's a cool idea to make a matchbox into 1/25 scale. i did one earlier with the #70 Snake Dragster (i've since recycled this charger).
sports850 Posted April 22, 2012 Author Posted April 22, 2012 Thank's Darryl , I remembered seeing someone else had done this in 1:24 before but couldn't find it again . So that's a 1:28 scale engine , still looks a smidgen small by comparrison . Has anyone else got an engine sitting about they can measure please ? That's a cool looking build Walter .
Lowlife ! ! Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 What a great idea..... ....Yeah, i had one too as a kid, and that model is looking great.. ! ! Really cool,, im goin to be watching this one...... Lowlife ! !
