Agent G Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 That weather, I was born, raised, and spent an entire career in St Louis. Tornadoes, hail, severe weather, I don't miss it. G
Rob Hall Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 (edited) I remember tornado warnings from when I lived in Ohio, but never had any happen near me. I don't miss the damp, gray cold winters and humid summers. Edited April 15, 2012 by Rob Hall
Agent G Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 HUMIDITY! 95 degrees and 98% humidity in the summers. Cold northern air, warm southern air, wearing shorts and a parka, having the AC and the heat on inside 12 hours, it's a breeding ground for severe weather. G
XJ6 Posted April 15, 2012 Author Posted April 15, 2012 He does not miss that Thank-You Jonathan...my Bad....Dumb me had simply misread it ....I Deleted it
tabsscale1 Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 As of midnight last night my local radio station said that there were over 103 Tornados spotted in Here in Kansas yesterday. Was up till way past two in the morning with the weather here. Luckily none were not around here.
Harry P. Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Yep... living in the midwest during "tornado season" sucks.
BKcustoms Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 We've been having thunderstorms here in pevely lately, but nothing too severe so far.
Casey Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Yep... living in the midwest during "tornado season" sucks. Could be worse-- SE U.S. during hurricane season. Plus, we are semi-buffered by Lake Michigan, too. I've yet to see a tornado (still hoping to), but I've seen two water spouts on Lake Michigan, and they were pretty amazing.
Harry P. Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Plus, we are semi-buffered by Lake Michigan, too. Nor sure what you mean there. I'm no weatherman, but I know that weather systems around here travel west to east. But the lake is to the east of us, or "behind" us as far as approaching storms go. So the lake has no effect on oncoming weather systems for those of us who live to the west of the lake... it only affects the weather on the east side of the lake as weather systems pass over it (like causing "lake-effect" snow in Indiana and Michigan in the winter).

Some think that the colder air along the lake does help to break up the warmer air in the tornadic event. That was proved false a few years ago as mentioned in my quote in the post above. The city of Saint Francis is on the lake. Edited April 15, 2012 by lordairgtar
Casey Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 (edited) You forgot about the tornado in St Francis a few years ago? I'm not saying it never happens, but it's very, very rare to have a tornado touch down near the western shore of the lake, and even rarer to have it touch down further inland, then continue all the way to the lakeshore. I don't know how close Harry lives to Lake MI, so maybe I should've clarified that. Edited April 15, 2012 by Casey
espo Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Spent over 30 years of my life in california, the last 13 yrs in the Sacto. area. The differance between an Earthquake and a Tornado is: In an Earth Quake all your stuff is under the rubble in one spot. In a Tornado your stuff is in the next county. In the last Earthquake when I lived in Sacramento was when the World Series was in San Francisco. Lost almost half the water in my pool. Trust me when you see or hear a Tornado the hair on the back of your neck will standup.
