Big Daddy Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 This one is pretty much identical to my own ride which i which i had to sell 15 years ago(i still have nightmares) painted with tamiya X15 light green
Harry P. Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Just one suggestion: paint the openings of the exhaust tips flat black so they look open... chrome just doesn't make it.

Haubenschild Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 (edited) Great job! My dads family had a sublime green 71 340 Demon. Sadly they also had to sell it because it was very impractical on the dirt roads in northern B.C Edited April 18, 2012 by Haubenschild
Mopar - D Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Nice looking Duster and color. Here is mine that I built 2 years ago.
crazyjim Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Another clean and SHINY :) one from Daryl. Excellent. Saw a '71 Duster today with a 572ci engine, tubbed, and painted in what looked like HOK cinnamon pearl. Should've had my camera.
Terry Sumner Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Love it also! One other tip....You applied the decal onto the flat painted hood which resulted in the carrier showing through and silvering. Pretty tough to fix that now. But for your next time when you have to apply a decal over a flat surface....paint the hood (or whatever area that is flat painted) with a gloss clear first...then apply the decal...then shoot the hood with a flat overcoat like Testor's Dullcote to get the flat finish back. You can mask off the decal if you want it to stay glossy. Not with tape though as you might pull it off. Instead, use a moistened piece of coffee filter cut to fit the decal as your mask. Works great. I use this method a lot when masking decals on natural metal finish airplanes. Hope this tip helps!
Modlbldr Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Great looking Duster. I love the color. Too bad you had to sell it. I've always had a soft spot for them. We had a 73 Gold Duster when I was younger. Nothing special, but had a lot of fun in that car. Terry, thanks for the info on applying the decals. That's why I love this site. Ones always willing to help. Later-
peekay Posted April 19, 2012 Posted April 19, 2012 Nice work, great paint! At first I was thinking Tamiya rattle can but then I realised X15 is acrylic in the bottle. Would you mind describing your method? Like what do you use for thinner and what ratio, how long between coats etc?

Would you mind describing your method? Like what do you use for thinner and what ratio, how long between coats etc? i used 70 % isopropel alcohol alot of there jared paint is pretty thin some more than others so you have to be carefull, it didn't need but a few drops, the whole car was painted in about 15 minutes , 3 light coats and one wet so only a few minutes between coats
peekay Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Thanks for the info Big Daddy. Unfortunately I'm allergic to IPA but I'll experiment with something else.
philo426 Posted April 20, 2012 Posted April 20, 2012 Cool! It looks like the Duster on one of the Cars album covers!
kruleworld Posted April 22, 2012 Posted April 22, 2012 That's a nicely built model. paint is good color
