Why is Rockford's license plate there?

This is only a guess...but if you think back to the time that Galaxie owner Gary Schmidt published the other model car magazine, he took great joy in incorporating occasional little (and sometimes bigger) surprises and "insider" quips/references in the magazine. (Clearview 2000????) My guess would be that this license plate is simply an extension of the past in that regard. Cool, huh? TB

It is there because Gary thought it would be a nice addition for the builders to have a well rendered version of the Rockford plate, (like the Bullitt plate), since those cars are popular for people to make their own models of. I was only too happy to oblige...

I heard from a very reliable source today that the licensing issues for the Galaxie '48 Chevy Coupe kit has been pretty much worked out, and hopefully we'll see them on the shelves by the end of this year. I hope?

Thanks for the update Nick....TIM .

Strangely enough, even with the age of the 1:1 car being replicated, it stills represents a GM vehicle, General Motors is one of the original manufacturer's that were damaged by copyright infringement and are extremely strict when it comes to anything that carries the name of one of their products, they won't sign off anything without giving clearance, and receiving their licensing fee.

>Puzzling in that Galaxie already has two kits of the same ilk

maybe I am missing something here; if so please point out my error, but isn't this the way things go: you invest in a mold and then find fairly small simple variations you can issue to interest people who perhaps were not interested in the prior versions?

edit: I see now. never mind. but just because they license one product doesn't necessarily mean it will be easier to license another.

The previous issues were for an Fleetline Aerosedan and a Sedan Delivery.
This issue is for a Fleetmaster Coupe and a Fleetmaster Aerosedan.
Plus the fact that they were issued back in '98. so.... one might guess that either time ran out on the old licensing or.... the new projects are different enough.
Not in my wheelhouse.
All I know is the decals are done.
The Boxart is done.
The molds are done.
The directions are done.
Onlything waiting is .... lawyers to agree on the price.

The literally thousands of employees of the Design Departments at GM, Ford, and Chrysler today might see this a bit differently.

Given the restrictions on automotive design today (safety, emissions, crash, pedestrian protection, insurance, fuel economy, weight, low speed crash damage, aero/drag objectives, and on and on and on....not to mention the differences in those regulations between nations around the world) that the automotive companies operate under vs. the 1960's..todays Designers generally do a pretty exceptional job.

Not to take anything away from the styling departments of the 1960's, who did a fabulous job, but it's an entirely different world out there today. TIM

Stuff like that just makes me wonder.

And don't tell me the problem is Chinese craftsmen who have never seen the real thing.

I mean, we can send these Chinese craftsmen photos, right?

We can also send these Chinese craftsmen to America for two or three weeks to study the real car

and shoot their own reference photos. But they might actually enjoy it, so I guess that's the end of that.

Lookin' forward to the release of Galaxie's '48 Chevy Coupe. The word I got this past Friday night is that it's due to be on the shelves this winter. Sorry that I can't get a more definite date at this time.
