I have no idea what the story is, but I jammed in some terms for a google search for the Car ID game, and in between the results, this appeared. And I really liked it.

The OP's picture is correctly identified as the Bertone Mustang (1965).

The Bertone Mustang 2+2 was commissioned by Automobile Quarterly Magazine (OK, so it's a hard back, but still a quarterly publication) in 1965. Made the rounds of a lot of car shows back then, but at last I heard, it has disappeared from view, nobody seems to know what became of it.
