Oh, I thought you bought it, never mind me

I do the same on hobby search website, for when I am thinking about buying a kit from a Japanese company

I was doin some research on something unrelated and stumbled back on this project idea. Jon asked about pricing and looks like the Modelhaus reproductions of the promo wire wheels are $8.00.

If it can/could be built stock or very close to stock, I'm in.

My thought exactly. Because this kit can not be built stock, I've stayed away it.

Another great review from Doc. Cranky. By the way, were has the good Doctor disappeared in the last year or two? He and his reviews are sorely missed.

Ive started converting one to stock.... quite easy. I filled in the side panels  and made smaller lower chrome rocker trim.  I went "bald top" on mine and shaved the padded top trim, opened up the side windows and rear window. I plan to use a combination of the 79 phaeton bumper/grill/headlights and the kit parts.

Hasn't he been on YouTube for years? Plus posting here besides?

Virgil really doesn't come around here all that much anymore.  In fact from glancing at his profile he hasn't posted since June - which was 6 months from his prior post from December of 2015, and hasn't even signed into the board since before Halloween.

He put a lot of time and effort in behind building the "brand" that is Dr. Cranky and who can blame him for devoting his time into those avenues.  He is also a full time college professor, and has been collaborating with another prominent YouTube modeler doing custom guitars.  Plus for someone like Virgil who does a lot of How-Tos, doing them on video (especially since the equipment needed to record in 1080p Hi-Def, and edit those videos has come down to earth) is just simply the way to go.  Nothing gets edited out, nothing has to be explained with just text or pictures.  You can explain the technique and then literally show exactly how to use it correctly.  The model magazines are lumbering off to obscurity - although digital issues may extend that shuffle - and forums such as this aren't that far behind.

I know for a lot of the older folks, they still want that tangible "thing" to hold in their hand.  But if you want to replicate a technique or body modification, what's easier to follow along with, a meandering article with 7 or 8 photos, or a live video with in depth explanations?

Well, I hope Dr. Cranky will share his wisdom with us on this site from time to time. He is missed here.

And I hope Revell decide to issue a stock version of this Cadillac someday too.

I doubt that'll ever happen. They seem to have no trouble selling out the full run of kits each time it's reissued.

Probably right, if only they did it as a 2n1 kit:lol:

He is sharing all his wisdom, just on a different platform, if you want to bask in it, you need to go to him,  that is where he want's be,  you can wait here for him, but I suspect, you are going to be waiting a llllllllloooooooooonnnnnnnnggggggggg time.

it would be impossible without 2 bodies. The kit version is "90`d" ... you couldn't get a 2 door with the padded trim, it has to be cut down from 4 door.

Oh right , yes, my mistake.

It could be done for the Revell kit if they just added the earlier style inserts to go in place of the modified '90/91 stuff, but then there'd be some nasty seams along the sides to fill in, and I don't see how that would fly with the average modeler.

What would people suggest for more stock wheels and tires? I have this kit and would like to finish it but the stance has baffled me as I'd prefer a more stock look.

Not sure on Rims/Hubcaps unless you have a set from a Jo-Han 77-79 Promo/kit

Tires I used MPC Goodyear G70-15's on my 79 Build

The Jo-Han tires look too small, and are VERY bland!!--NO sidewall detail, NO Tread Pattern!!

Does any Offer copies of the Jo-Han rims Now???

With the Modelhaus now being defunct, Jo-Han wheels would be your only option.
But since this kit will not build into a stock model no matter what, just replace the Lowrider wheels and tyres with a set of aftermarket wheels and tyres that suit the car better.
I'm toying with the idea to use the fake wire wheels from the Jo-Han '68 Chrysler kit.
