Scorpius1 Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Went to a large local fleamarket today this morning and found a rare treasure- this Much to my amazement the kit was totally complete, clear window parts in excellent condition along with the Body and chassis pieces which were straight and true. Fleamarkets, gotta love 'em!!!!
george 53 Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 It's only a good deal if ya got it for cheap. You CAN still find that kit on the Bay for THEIR stupid prices, so IF you got a deal on it, you made out!!! Glad ta hear it!!!
Austin T Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 I found a woman selling Tamiya kits for 5 bucks a pop today, bought up every single one of them.
Scorpius1 Posted April 28, 2012 Author Posted April 28, 2012 Thanks guys. Yep, it was a STEAL at the price I got it for. I did check the stupid prices and was blown away on both Ebay and a couple other sites. Of course, since I'm not a Corvair fan, I put this one on Ebay for a not so stupid price just for laughs. Just curious to see what happens!
Art Anderson Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Antique stores and second-hand stores can also be a place to turn up bargains. More than once I've snagged what would otherwise have been a very pricey model kit for peanuts. Don't overlook garage sales either, particularly ones put on by older people whose kids have grown up and moved away. About 20 years ago, I bought several MIB AMT and MPC kits from the 1960's, for the price shown on the original hobby shop price tags (most of which I actually stuck on the model kits when they arrived at the hobby shop here in town where I worked my way through college (imagine, in 1992, buying an MPC 1966 GTO Hardtop for the original $2.00 price tag!!! Oh yeah!!!). Art
Scorpius1 Posted April 28, 2012 Author Posted April 28, 2012 So true Art, bargains can be found in the strangest places. I often hit Ebay also and start looking in other categories and find some rare kits at unbelievably low prices listed as Antiques or straight out collectibles. If some of the folks only knew what they had sometimes, of course for us it is a good thing that they don't. Now if I could only find an MPC 72 or 73 Camaro!
mikemodeler Posted April 28, 2012 Posted April 28, 2012 Corvair Jim would probably gladly take that kit off your hands Scorpius. It could also make for some good trade material if someone is looking for one of those. Nice score, I need to spend some time hitting the flea markets around here.
Junkman Posted April 29, 2012 Posted April 29, 2012 There is no such thing as old model kits at flea markets (called boot sales here) in England. But the Corgis and Dinkys I found, and at what prices! Peoples got killed for less, lemme tellyas.
Scorpius1 Posted April 29, 2012 Author Posted April 29, 2012 Wow, I thought Flea Markets were an American Icon like Mom's Apple Pie, Twinkies and Ball Park Hot Dogs. The good part about the one I was at was that most of it was indoors and the grub was good and cheap. Leaves more cash for Junk!
jeffb Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 not much luck like that around here lately. but years ago i scored several promos at a salvation army store for a quarter apiece
Terry Sumner Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 (edited) I have a couple of pretty large flea markets in my area and I check them every few weeks. But I hardly ever see a kit at all let alone any good deals.... Edited April 30, 2012 by Terry Sumner
ZTony8 Posted April 30, 2012 Posted April 30, 2012 Best deals I ever got at a flea market were at the Street Rod Nationals in Kalamazoo,Mi.I picked up a Jo-Han '31 Caddy and a '34 Benz,an AMT '65 Riviera,a couple of Revell Grand Prixs, and couple other kits all for under $15(just missed an original issue '50 Ford from there when a guy grabbed it just before i could reach it.Darn).
