treadhead Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 Title says it all. I have a repair build I am beginning and Ive never liked the way the chrome parts look compared against the gold wheels. I want the chrome to look like shiny gold. Whats the best way to do this?
Fat Brian Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 If the chrome is still good on the parts the most common method is to spray the chrome with candy yellow or orange, it depends on the gold tone you want. I would test it on some scrap pieces since you are trying to match your wheels to see what gets you closer.
roadhawg Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 I've heard Tamiya clear yellow does pretty good for that, but I've never tried it.
Art Anderson Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 I've heard Tamiya clear yellow does pretty good for that, but I've never tried it. Tamiya Clear Yellow works like a charm to make gold-toned chrome. Imply brush or airbrush over clean, shiny chrome parts. Art
JARRNO88 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Try out furnature touch up markers. I purchaced a set at my local building supply for just a couple of dollars and have used them for gold toning chrome parts. You can put more than one coat on to darken the tone and with a set you can choose what type of tint you want. In the set I have the light oak makes the chrome look like gold and the darker ones make the chrome look like brass. Keith
Deathgoblin Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Here's a thought. I've seen where people use the Sharpie markers to do amber turn signals and brake lights. I wonder if using them on chrome would work for that too? Might have to try it on some scrap just to see what happens.
