vintagedragfan Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 turning out to look like the real deal Darryl, you should be very pleased with the results, nice man!
Mister Twister Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 Thanks for the great comments guys..I appreciate it! I worked on the engine and got it installed and cut some plastic for the engine bay tin.
krazyglu Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 That looks awesome, your builds come together so nice.
Mister Twister Posted November 5, 2013 Author Posted November 5, 2013 That looks awesome, your builds come together so nice. Not always....Lots of test fitting..LOL Thanks Steven
Mister Twister Posted November 10, 2013 Author Posted November 10, 2013 Not a lot to report but I did install the helmet in the passenger floor (where I put it after a run) and I made a replica of my jacket and draped it over the passenger side roll bar (which I did sometimes). I need time to be able to clear the body and parts and to begin work on the windows.
PappyD340 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Darryl, that is real SWEET man, awesome job!!
Truck parts Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Darryl, What is the silver tube with blue handle on top of the roll bar on the right side?.
Mister Twister Posted November 10, 2013 Author Posted November 10, 2013 (edited) Darryl, What is the silver tube with blue handle on top of the roll bar on the right side?. Thanks fellas! Gordon, the car was air shifted and the bottle you see mounted on the roll bar is a co2 bottle. It is controlled by an electric solenoid (activation switch) that allows the car to shift at consistent rpms (the same rpm) on each and every run. Shift points could be changed from lets say...6700 rpm to 7200 rpm simply by changing a chip in the computer box. The bottom line is...is that it just makes for a more consistant race car. It sort of takes the driver out of the equation but thats ok if it makes the car more consistent. Thanks! Edited November 10, 2013 by Mister Twister
Mister Twister Posted November 12, 2013 Author Posted November 12, 2013 I got the body and trim foiled and the clear coat sprayed on today. The temp was around 78 with humidity less than 50% so it worked out great for spraying on the clear. I cut some side windows and got the car number and my name done as well. More soon and thanks for looking in!
frozono Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 WOW...................... shiny.....................nice............. ............
tyrone Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Looking good Darryl.... I was looking for you and Wayne Saturday...
Mister Twister Posted November 12, 2013 Author Posted November 12, 2013 Looking good Darryl.... I was looking for you and Wayne Saturday... Thanks guys! Tyrone, I talked with Wayne in Sept. and at that time we both planned to attend the show in Atlanta. But, with Wayne being on the road and me not working right now...It just didn't work out for us this year. This is 2 years in a row that we've missed the show. I haven't been to a single show in 2013 but I hope to do several next year. I hope you had a great time and I saw some pics of the show with your builds on the table and they looked nice. Do you know who any of the winners were?
W-409 Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Looking good, Darryl! The paint job is incredible, nice shine and smooth paint. The windows look very good, too. This will be amazing build when finished, it sure is a lot of fun to build a Scale Replica of 1:1 car, isn't it.
Mooneyzs Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Darryl... I love this build and it is turning out fantastic. The paint looks killer and I absolutely love the rubber build up you put on the chassis. Totally cool. I can't wait to see more of this build come together.
Mister Twister Posted November 24, 2013 Author Posted November 24, 2013 Thanks for the nice comments guys...I appreciate it! I polished out the clear to a very nice luster and installed the windows. The body is now in place for good. I got the engine bay tin foiled and in place also. I had to modify the racing jacket somewhat (looks better now) and I'll work on the doors and some small details next. More soon (I hope) and thanks again!
Nitrozilla Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I can't get enough of your builds Darryl. Muy impressivo.
John Teresi Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Darryl…….tons and tons of detail……..everyone of your builds has that real race car look…….very impressive
pharr7226 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 So many details... another awesome build Darryl. What clear did you use?
Mister Twister Posted November 29, 2013 Author Posted November 29, 2013 So many details... another awesome build Darryl. What clear did you use? Thanks fellas! Rick, I use Model Master #2936 High Gloss Enamel for my choice of clear. I've always had good luck with it and so I stick with it pretty much exclusively.
Mister Twister Posted November 29, 2013 Author Posted November 29, 2013 Not much done this week but I did get the chute in place (pics are somewhat dark..better ones later). I never pulled the chute on my car (not much need to on a 9 second car) but I put one in the model because its been a signature of mine with the open chutes for many years. So, needless to say the replica of my actual car has an open chute in the trunk. I don't know how many pieces of PE bolt head and screw head details I've used but its a lot (over 60 pieces throughout) and I got the dzus fasteners on the hood and trunk. Doors are next. Thanks!
