martinfan5 Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I think I am going to start on this , came today, its looks to be a really simple kit to build, I want something simple to get me out of this rut I am in there really is not a lot to this kit, three part trees, one of them is the chrome parts. It does have an engine. I am going to be doing this one in a green color, not sure of the interior color yet, need to do some research first. Getting some primer on all the main body parts.
MonoPed Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Take your time fitting all the panels together, it will pay off in the end. It's a neat kit though, have fun with it!
martinfan5 Posted May 15, 2012 Author Posted May 15, 2012 Thanks Brian for tips, I like yours, very nice
MonoPed Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Thanks, Here's the rest of the pics: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=45258&hl=&fromsearch=1
martinfan5 Posted May 15, 2012 Author Posted May 15, 2012 I hope mine will turn out as good as yours did, where did you get the wheels from, I like the stock wheels, but I like the look with the wheels you have on yours.
The70judgeman Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Just be careful with the full windshield. It's pretty thin and easy to snap if you're not careful. Mine snapped while masking for the chrome trim that is molded right into the glass. Otherwise, it's a really nice little model. Have fun with it.
Pete J. Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 (edited) It is a deceptively simple kit. Lots of things to do to make it intersting and since the original cars were sold as build it yourself kits, you can pretty make it yours. Mark Jones has done a couple. Lets see if he will throw a couple up for inspiration. Here is one I did a few years ago. Great fun to build. Edited May 15, 2012 by Pete J.
sjordan2 Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 (edited) I'd still like to see someone do the Lotus from "The Prisoner" TV series. The main external difference from the box art are a yellow nose piece and the slots on the wheels. Edited May 15, 2012 by sjordan2
MonoPed Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Those wheels are available from Replicas & Miniatures of MD. Made to fit the kit tires, there are five wheels with separate lug nuts.
Scale-Master Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Sure, I'll be glad to share a few from that fun kit. This is the first one I built. Made new wheels and some other details. I put a Rotary engine in this one, converted it to LHD and made a Rotus. This is the most recent one, but it is also the most modified one I have done. Also converted to LHD and used the left over Webers from the Rotus on the Buick V6.
martinfan5 Posted May 15, 2012 Author Posted May 15, 2012 Very nice Mark, I think I may have to get another one and do a custom one.
MonoPed Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Rotus, huh? Interesting power choice, gotta wonder how many 1:1 Caterham Sevens ended up with rotary power. Cool build!
RancheroSteve Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 I'd still like to see someone do the Lotus from "The Prisoner" TV series. I've got one of those kits and that's always been my plan. The show came on when I was about 12 and I was instantly hooked.
RancheroSteve Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Those wheels are available from Replicas & Miniatures of MD. Made to fit the kit tires, there are five wheels with separate lug nuts. Thanks for the tip! I'm going to order a set.
martinfan5 Posted May 16, 2012 Author Posted May 16, 2012 I am having a hard time figuring out what color to go with on the engine, I have seen them painted red, blue, aluminum , the instructions call for it to be a green, any ideas as what color I should go with?
martinfan5 Posted May 16, 2012 Author Posted May 16, 2012 Ready to paint the body, I am using a black base coat, the green I am going to use is Model Master Emerald green Lacquer, it looks better with a black base coat.
martinfan5 Posted May 17, 2012 Author Posted May 17, 2012 Got the Lotus painted, and started working on the engine as well
martinfan5 Posted May 17, 2012 Author Posted May 17, 2012 The body has been clear coated, and a little bit of wetsanding and polishing and more work done on the engine
Tom Setzer Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 A friend of mine had a Lotus 7 and it was a lot of fun. The ones posted in this thread all look great, and true to the original.
surfjunke Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Looking good, Jon. The others that have been posted are all really cool. All very well done & some great ideas.
RancheroSteve Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Those wheels are available from Replicas & Miniatures of MD. Made to fit the kit tires, there are five wheels with separate lug nuts. Hey, Brian - any chance you'd have a part number for those wheels? I'm not seeing them in the catalog I have (not that the R & M catalog is the easiest thing to navigate).
martinfan5 Posted May 17, 2012 Author Posted May 17, 2012 Thanks guys, I have not done a lot since the last update, trying to decide what color I want to do the wheels, I was thinking body color, but used all the paint of that color on the body, so maybe white, or kind of thinking black , hmm
Scale-Master Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 One of the cool things about these cars is the freedom to do some eye catching color combos if you are so inclined. Bright or high contrast colored wheels and noses are quite common.
