Rick Schmidt Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 (edited) I just got a built up Mercedes SL I thought itwas a Tamiya when I seen it cause I had found this box art But when I got the car I discovered it was a bit different. Mine don't have a seperate engine its a curbside. Also mines roof is molded on with the body It has an odd patterned decal on the seats and was molded in grey. Can anyone possibly tell me what kit I have and what year car it represents ?? Edited May 23, 2012 by Rick Schmidt
Rick Schmidt Posted May 23, 2012 Author Posted May 23, 2012 Yea Jonathan I dunno what happened there I got the pic fixed tho
martinfan5 Posted May 23, 2012 Posted May 23, 2012 It happens, I wish I could help, but I have no idea, I do remember having the kit that you posted , do you have pic of what do you do have that you can post
Rick Schmidt Posted May 24, 2012 Author Posted May 24, 2012 took a quick pic of the car I have in my possesion
jaymcminn Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I'm thinking it"s the Fujimi kit- it was also released by Testors.
sjordan2 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 (edited) Looks like a Revell 300SL-24, but could be a Fujimi/Testors 500SL. Is there a number molded on the trunk? Since the Japanese kits are notorious for curbsides, I would guess it's the Fujimi. Edited May 24, 2012 by sjordan2
Chuck Kourouklis Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I'm reaching waaaay back in memory now, but didn't the Revell AG SL have an opening hood and an engine? If it's a pure curbside, I'd think the odds are on Fujimi.
Rick Schmidt Posted May 24, 2012 Author Posted May 24, 2012 the way the wheels mount tell me its a Japanese kit so I am leaning towards the Fujimi yall showed me. It is a full curbside the front wheels steer the rears are mounted on a metal axle.
sjordan2 Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 The instructions for the Fujimi convertible show it's a curbside, no engine at all.
Rick Schmidt Posted May 24, 2012 Author Posted May 24, 2012 Guys thanks for identifying what kit i have. I was thinking of redoing it my way and I may still do so in the future but for now she gets to live as she is. Here this weekend I'll set her up and take decent pics and post then up
BrianC Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 I seem to recall a while ago that a company called Lee produced a few Mercedes kits in a box that had a very similar look to Tamiya. I know that I saw the bigger coupe and a sedan ( S600 s I think). They may have done this body style too.... Brian Cuthbert.
Tonioseven Posted May 24, 2012 Posted May 24, 2012 It's a Fujimi kit; Lee kits were reverse-engineered from Tamiya kits and are notorious for awful quality.
Rick Schmidt Posted May 26, 2012 Author Posted May 26, 2012 Lee I dunno that I'd go that route with it lol Think I'll just leave it as is for now maybe later make a descision what to do with it
