cobraman Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 (edited) After finishing the yellow 49 Merc I really wanted to build another. This one will go in a little different direction with more customizing. As the photos show I am filling in the fender holes for the headlights. They are going to be relocated to the grill area. I cut off the tops of a couple of Sharpies to fill the holes and puttied them up. I am also filling in and relocating the tail lights. I have filled the holes for the wipers and also drilled a couple of holes and have put plastic tube in the holes which will be cut down and smoothed and will be twin sunken antenna's. Thanks for looking and comments are always welcome. Edited June 9, 2012 by cobraman
bryan_m Posted May 28, 2012 Posted May 28, 2012 cool! this is a great kit, cant wait to see what else you cook up with this one! cheers bryan
cobraman Posted June 3, 2012 Author Posted June 3, 2012 Well my company has left and I was able to get more done on my latest Merc. Still a long way to go. I have filled the wiper holes, the tail lights and the headlight buckets have been modified and headlights will be relocated. I have drilled holes in the hood over the carbs as I will not be using the small air cleaners but rather have aluminum tubes attached to the carbs and coming through the hood. The holes are lined up but I still need to drill them larger. I also have made twin sunken antenna's using some plastic tubing. The body is in primer and getting closer to paint. I noticed when I took the photos that I messed up on the speedometer decal a bit. 60 year old eyes sometimes are not your best friend. Thanks for looking and as always comments pro and con are welcome.
cobraman Posted June 4, 2012 Author Posted June 4, 2012 Here is another small update. Interior is done and I set the body on the chassis to see how it all fits. Body still needs to be finished.
Olskoolrodder Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 That's a killer concept,my friend,and lookign sweet so far!

bryan_m Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 I musta missed it somewhere, but what color is that? it looks great. cheers bryan
JasonFL Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 This is a great looking merc. It's gonna look even better then the last one you built. I like how you smoothed everything out, can't wait to see where you take this
rmvw guy Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 I've never seen this done with the headlights, very interesting! I like all the other mods and the color is fitting. Any plans for graphics or pinstripes? I'll keep watching, got to love the old Merc's.
cobraman Posted June 5, 2012 Author Posted June 5, 2012 Thanks for the kind words guys. The color is just Testors White Lightning. When put over the gray primer it kind of takes on a silvery hue. Wasn't thinking of adding any type of graphics, I kind of like the clean look. Wasn't sure about doing the bullet headlight fillers but I am now thinking it's pretty cool and I'm glad I did it. However, I will have to wait till I see how the headlights look in the grill area to know for sure.
bryan_m Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 ill have to remember that paint color, i really like it, and im sure different undercoats will result in lots of different colors...... nice work bryan
