brad4321 Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 I've used Tamiya rattle cans forever and always had nice results. Yesterday, I primed some parts in their grey primer. Went on great. But then when I sprayed the white on top, it fisheyed and puddled in the crevices. All kinds of issues. And the white had worked just fine a few hours earlier on some other parts.
Psychographic Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Dis anyone spray anything with silicone in it anywhere near the body?
SuperStockAndy Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 I think the Tamiya white paint is a fluke. It's happened to me, and a few others.
brad4321 Posted May 30, 2012 Author Posted May 30, 2012 Nope, no silicone in the area. I would just assume it was the white. "Racing White" to be exact. But it had worked fine on other parts earlier in the day.
Dave Van Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 Primer being flat is able to cover things the gloss can't ....sounds like there was something on the body like mold release....
brad4321 Posted May 30, 2012 Author Posted May 30, 2012 Thanks Dave. I am not disciplined in washing my parts. Bodies, yes. Everything else, no.
Lunajammer Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 Was the part cold and dry then taken outside into hot and humid where condensation could have interfered?
RickRollerLT1 Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 Whats happening is you might be applying too much gloss white to cover the gray. A gloss color is "thinner" than a flat color due to the amount of thinner in the paint mix. Therefore, it could run or cause uneven aeras on the painted surface. What I find works is after the coat of gray primer, spray some flat white so it covers over the gray, then apply the gloss white so it gets an even shine/gloss. By doing this, you won't have to apply much of the glossy color to cover the gray primer because there is a surface that matches the color your applying over it. This works for gloss black over flat black, red over pink, sliver over black, and so on.
sjordan2 Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 You may get more results, and more informed ones, if you use a more descriptive thread title like"Tamiya gray primer problem - fisheyes, etc."
