Bill Lastovich, a mainstay of the team at Revell, lost his battle with cancer. He was a good friend and strong supporter of the Hobby and Lake Michigan Model Car Club (LMMCC). At many of the club meetings, we sat at the same table and had great chats. In the last few months he made us aware of his health problems and we all prayed for the best. At the last meeting, he appeared to be holding his own and we were hoping the Chemo would be o benefit. Alas, it wasn't.

Amongst his many other talents and interests, Bill was an avid collector of HO railroad items, 1/43 scale models and, recently, got into the 1/25 Indy Cars and period racing cars like the Cheetah and Trans Am.

He was responsible for a lot of the tweaks in recent Revell releases, such as the Drive in tray and accoutrements in the 55 Chevy sedan.

I thank God that I had the opportunity to know Bill and wish his family peace.

Yes Gerry, Bill will be missed by many. I've known him for about 30 years and last saw him at the Milwaukee NNL and knew that he had major health issues. May he R.I.P.

Very sorry to hear this news. I met Bill a few years ago at the IPMS Nationals here in Phoenix. Friendly and gracious guy, generous with his time and extremely enjoyable guy to chew the fat with. You would have thought he'd known me for years.

He's just the kind of bigger-than-life guy who'll really be missed in this hobby.

I first met Bill at the Toledo NNL about 1980 or so. I roamed around the warehouse at Trost Hobby, a large hobby wholesaler in Chicago where he worked. He would point out where to find the goodies and was very patient with us and protected us from the questioning looks of Mrs. T.

I know his whole working career was in the hobby. He started out working at a hobby shop and married the owner's daughter. He then worked at Trost and then at Revell-ogram.

He was always very friendly and nice to everyone. It is very sad to know he is gone. His wife and three sons certainly have my condolences.

Bill and I were set up as vendors at the IPMS Nats in 2009. Bill was manning the Revell booth I was helping run my brother in laws booth. I had been working with Bill on some projects at Revell and both of us into trains and road racers....we got to spend some time just talking. I will miss Bill. God bless his friends and family...prayers to all during this time.

Gosh, and I didn't know Bill was sick! My acquaintance and friendship with Bill Lastovich goes all the way back to about 1970, when I became the plastic model and HO train manager and buyer for Weber's Hobby Shop here in Lafayette (then the largest hobby shop in the midwest outside of a major city). Bill was working in the warehouse of Trost Modelcraft & Hobbies, arguably the oldest hobby wholesaler in the US --started in 1932. In the spring of 1984, as I was preparing my opening buys for my own hobby shop, The Modelmaker, Bill was an invaluable resource, and continued to be until he left Trost for Monogram, about the time I closed The Modelmaker to concentrate on resin casting in 1992.

Bill and I enjoyed many a conversation at meetings of the Lake Michigan Model Car Club years ago--fun guy to know, to visit with.

Sadly, our "War Baby/Baby Boom" generation is slipping into the twilight.

RIP Bill Lastovich, you are missed!
