hi, just trying to get a grip on the different levels (grits) of sandpapers. What grit levels should the model car builder be concerened with for polishing out etc. I went to ace hardware and the finest grit they had was 1500. I just called autozone and they told me that 2000 was the finest they sold. is there a reference chart or something that shows the various grits etc. what is the finest grit available.

thx, john

This one looks good to me. Or then that one, I suggested with PM. ;)http://stores.scaledreams.com/-strse-664/Assorted-grit-Polishing-system/Detail.bok

Then I would buy these two http://stores.scaledreams.com/-strse-1077/Novus-1-Clean-and/Detail.bok and http://stores.scaledreams.com/-strse-1078/Novus-2-fine-scratch/Detail.bok I didn't totally Get It, which one would be better, or if both of them are needed. So I would buy both and test them.

2000 is about the finest commonly available for 1:1 cars. It's fine enough to let you bring the gloss back up on a real car where you'll be using a power buffer. It's not really fine enough for models, where you'll be rubbing the polish by hand. Detail Master also makes very fine sandpaper and the MicroMesh polishing system, which is what I use now.

This car was done with MicroMesh, as mentioned above.
