jcbigpaw Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 I'm thinking about doing a series of cars based on the "Cars" movies but using regular kits. So Petty Daytona, Hudson for racing version of Doc etc. so I'm trying to figure out what to use for McQueen. Any ideas?
jeffs396 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 70s Corvette bashed with an MPC Hardcastle & McCormick Coyote maybe???
Fat Brian Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 From the Lightning McQueen wiki page the design was based on a Miata/Viper/stock car hybrid with no particular brand.
MAGNUM4342 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Will the REAL Lightning McQueen please roll up? I don't know if this helps or not, but there you have it.
cobraman Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 It kind of looks like a Solstice with a 911 roof. Kind of.
MAGNUM4342 Posted July 1, 2012 Posted July 1, 2012 Cars 2 is on right now. Except for the spoiler, it looks to me like Holly Shiftwell is the same basic design as McQueen?
Jantrix Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I think the Stingray III concept car would be a great jumping off point. Add the 911 roof like everyone has suggested, and I think you'd be in the ballpark.
1930fordpickup Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 It might be easier to start with a block of ren-shape board , then have it cast .
Fat Brian Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I agree, by the time you mated together a half dozen kits you could just start from scratch.
Edsel-Dan Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 "The King" should be a Plymouth Superbird, not a Dodge Daytona Mater would be the Fun one to create.
mnwildpunk Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 Mater looks to me to either be a 57 chevy P.U. Or a 55 I.H.
mnwildpunk Posted July 2, 2012 Posted July 2, 2012 I wish I had a pic but a guy made a McQueen out of a dodge stealth here in the cities. Looks pretty good if you went off of that I would donate my stealth kit
CaptainAhab Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 (edited) mid 90s toyota supra might help a little. The roofline/back half seems workable as well as a few other parts. As mentioned above lots of putty and frankensteining is in order! Edited July 3, 2012 by CaptainAhab
Greg Wann Posted July 3, 2012 Posted July 3, 2012 This is a cool idea. I sugested to Revell to do these as beginner kits to get new young kids to get into the hobby.
