ismaelg Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Hello, You may remember my post a few weeks ago about primers. I tested Nason 421 primer and initial results indicated it was a good replacement for Plastikote. Well, I did more tests with it and ran into a problem: I used Nason primer on a Revell Cadillac STS-V uptown body to test how it sands compared to Plastikote, which is a beauty to sand. When I was going to sand it I noticed it lifted in a small area. Curious, I taped a strip of masking tape across it and pulled: ALL THE PRIMER PULLED OFF. I thought it could have been improperly cleaned surface, so I cleaned it and sanded lightly, re-applied primer and long story made short same thing happened again. It did not happened in the C6 Corvette I tried first. I tried the tape several times on the Vette but it did not lifted. Why one of them and not the other one? I have no idea. So the Nason primer is now quarantined until further notice. It seems it doesn't bite into the plastic enough to stick. We may now return to our regularly scheduled programming, already in progress.... Thanks,
bobss396 Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 I have one question, was the body totally free of mold release for the first round of testing? I would soak another body in Blech White and run it again. I've been using Duplicolor for all my final body prep work and have never had a problem with it. Bob
LT Posted July 23, 2007 Posted July 23, 2007 Nason is more or less DuPont's budget line of products. I experimented with the Nason equivalent of VariPrime a few years ago and found that it was totally useless for my modeling purposes. The best thing about it was that it came in a plastic container so it didn't make a lot of noise when I dumped it in my garbage can.

Bet Ismael would love to have known that before buying it! It's a bit harder in PR to find paint products than it is on the mainland. Nice to see you pop in occasionally Leon!

LT Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Thanks Bob. Thanks Izzy. I saw the word "Nason" and I cringed.

ramonesblues Posted July 24, 2007 Posted July 24, 2007 Out of curiosity, when did Dupont acquire Nason. They were owned by Fuller Paints origionaly, and i used their primer on 1/1 for at least 20 years. The red oxide was the best primer made at the time.
jeffb Posted July 25, 2007 Posted July 25, 2007 i found t235 at the local DO IT hardware chain. not cheap, 6 bucks a can.
