If you get the chance to watch the movie "Hollywood Knights" ( a classis movie for us car buffs), there is a character in the movie called Jimmy Shine. I can't remember the whole storyline but I think it may be a reference to his dad, not exactly sure.

Shine isn't his real name.

Shine isn't his real name.

Yeah, I found that out after my original post. Still, there is that reference to Jimmy Shine from the movie and considering that was back in 1980, he might have lifted the name from there.

His real name is considerably longer and harder to pronounce than "Shine" :P

An interesting note to that movie is that Tony Nancy appears in the movie as himself.

Jimmy is frequently asked how he got nicknamed "Shine.” Certainly there are all kinds of stories, but the simple truth is "Jimmy Shine" is a lot easier to get by on than James Dennis Falschlehner.

At any rate, Jimmy and his hot rod family resided in Temple City, CA during my tenure with Pete & Jake’s Hot Rod Parts. Little did I know that the guy who was responsible for a very cool ’34 3-window coupe and the fabled “Lunar Duner” (a forerunner of the monster truck phenomenon) was actually Jimmy’s dad Denny. Dad of course influenced the son and by age 14 he had finished a Gasser styled Chevy powered ‘40 Willys pickup.

Jimmy bumped around for a while honing his skills building hot rods, customs and bikes. Then in 1997 I learned of Jimmy through a mutual acquaintance. All in all he had the exact profile I was looking for in a potential fabricator for the car shop. The word was if you can get past his tattoos and cocky attitude he’s your man. Well that was 12 years ago. He’s got more tattoos and his attitude is only mildly tempered but the kid we hired has turned into quite a craftsman.

For the newcomer SO-CAL is not an easy place to crack. Expectations are high, the learning curve is long and arduous and to top it off the crew is renowned for its unmerciful teasing. Working closely with the SO-CAL crew Shine earned key positions on SO-CAL projects such as: Chuck DeHeras’ '40 Ford coupe, Ed Ducazau’s '29 hiboy roadster, Dan Kruse’s timeless Harley, Gene Olson’s '51 Merc convertible, the DH Special, the Fleet Special, Bill Lindig’s Ardun powered '32 hiboy roadster (featured on Discovery Channel’s "Hot Rod Build-off") and a '57 Chevy Gasser for Todd Haas.

And in his "spare time" he built 2 very cool Harley’s and his iconic '34 Ford pickup, a Bonneville race car that put him in the prestigious 200 MPH Club. He is currently in the midst of building a '29 AV8 hiboy roadster for car collector Tom Lieb and prepping a Bonneville car for the 2009 season.

I like the Car Warriors show. Shine seems to be an arrogant so & so, but I don't care. I prefer to watch My Ride Rules just to get a quick glimpse of the trophy girl - oh and to see the cars too.

I find My ride Rules to be, well, interesting. Witness the almost stock 2007 Vette that won. I think they voted for the hot chick rather than the car. Sheesh....

Dollar for dollar..... You can get a lot more horse power....

Hmm, are you saying "babes" cost money? :o Dont ask me, I got a really hot chick half my age years ago. All I can say is that it did not work out well. I'd rather spend my money on a car, they are much more rewarding! :D Oh yeah, and they dont talk back!!!
