Fisher61 Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 Here's one of my favorite builds, built from the Revell lowrider kit. Painted with Model Master white lacquer with turquoise trim. Removed the incorrect for 1960 spare tire well from the chassis, cut down the rocker panels on the chassis so they didn't hang down below the rocker panels on the body. I also shortened the tailpipes to exit behind the wheels, cut the front spindles and moved forward as I felt the front wheels sat to far back in the wheel openings compared to the 1:1 car. I cut the batteries from the trunk floor and replaced with sheet styrene. I used the tires from the Revell '64 Chevy pick-up as the stock ones were not included in the lowrider kit, added parts box spare tire. Seat patterns are scans of the original kits decals. Let me know what you think and thanks for looking!
BIGTRUCK Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 Holey smokes...thats awesome....looks perfect...great build, that turquoise makes it ''pop'' .
MrObsessive Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!! I always thought that the roofline that Revell did for the '60 is exactly right as the one they did for the '59 was too "flat". Did you have much trouble with the windshield? That seems to be a common complaint I've heard from others that built the '60.

I wish they would have made a '60 specific chassis instead of sliding by with the '59 chassis! BTW Bill I looked at your album and was blown away by your "58 Impala! Most awsome build I ever seen !

Hmmm..............I never noticed a chassis difference between the '59 and the '60! What other changes besides the elimination of the wheelwell did Chevy make for '60? I intend on building the '60 sometime....... Thanks for the compliment about my '58!
Matt T. Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 WHOA! What a beauty! I might have ordered that color combo in '60. So nice! Neat weatherstrip detailing around the trunk opening and the speedometer pod too. Great work.
Lyle Willits Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 Excellent build. That is beautiful. Having owned a '60 Impala, yours looks right on the money.

Although they are very similar, there IS a difference. This is one of the minor things that has held me back from building a replica of my old car. I've been playing with Franklin Mint '60 wheel covers to see if they can be cast.

There were changes to the rear crossmember of the frame, lower and narrower transmission hump, [ really not that big of deal] . Tailpipes no longer exited out of the back of car, again not a big deal if your not building factory stock. The hubcaps are close, but were different for '60. Power steering pump was now mounted to motor and belt driven, not driven off the back of the generator as in '59. Other than those few problems, it's a great kit, one I've waited 30+ years for as my dad had a red Impala 4-door hardtop with a 348 when I was just a little kid !
Olle F Posted July 30, 2007 Posted July 30, 2007 That's sweet, have to pick up one of those kits one day! I love that color combination, had to look twice to see if the windows were tinted or not. Too bad they didn't include the original parts, but I think there is an early issue of this kit that can be built all original.
drnitrus Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 Beautiful build! That color combo looks great together.
Peter Lombardo Posted August 6, 2007 Posted August 6, 2007 I just love the way the interior jumps off the page. Beautiful build. Classic, I think works here. Yeah, Classic build.
